Diplomats: New Eriched Uranium Found at Iranian Military Site

VIENNA, Austria"”The U.N. atomic agency found traces of highly enriched uranium at an Iranian site linked to the country's defense ministry, diplomats said Friday, adding to concerns that Tehran was hiding activities aimed at making nuclear arms.

The diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential information, said the findings were preliminary and still had to be confirmed through other lab tests. But they said the density of enrichment appeared to be close to or above the level used to make nuclear warheads.

With any luck it will be Tehran , and the sooner the better , it would make a great warning symbol for all of the other "nuke club" wannabes . They've forgotten the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki , perhaps it's time they got a neutron charged sample of what they're fooling with . But what about radical muslim backlash ? [

it would seem the Iranian president as been doing the reach out and talk dance...could this be why ?

I believe it and figure they will have nuke weapons soon regardless what we or anyone else does. There is always at least 1 member of the security council that veto's action against these rogue nations because of their own special interests. If Iran did get the bomb I doubt that they would use it on us but it is a possibility that they would let one go towards one of their neighbors. India and Pakistan both have the bombs and hate each other. That is the place where I would expect something to happen or possibly North Korea where the ruler is nuts.

India and Pakistan practice Mutually Assured Destruction , just as we did with the Russians for nearly 50 years , the chances of them blowing each other up is remote at best since neither side could prevail . Prevailing is the only reason to prosecute a conflict , without it you're just pissing into the wind . Iran , Korea , and other rogue nations are the bigger concern , particularly Iran since being muslim they are prepared to die whether they win or not . Loonies with big bombs are a far greater risk than a more temperate possessor .

I disagree , Pakistan is already largely an Islamic theocracy in principle , so why haven't they gone over the edge yet ?

Granted , they're somewhat two faced , but nearly all arabs are . Iran is far more dangerous for several reasons . Unlike Pakistan they aren't even trying to pretend they like us and have openly threatened us more than once . Pakistan has a lot of Islamic influence in their goob but they have overidden what the mullahs want more than once . Iran has way more money and much deeper terrorist ties . Russian nukes are aren't totally accounted for by a reliable authority and Iran has the cash to buy them off the black market from the Russian mafia .

Pakistan and Iran are very different countries. The ironic thing is that Iran has a nutball theocratic government, but relatively few Islamic nuts in the general population. On the other hand, Pakistan's government is relatively benign, yet the population includes a sizeable number of religous fanatics.

Anyway, kevin makes good points about India and Pakistan counter-balancing each other militarily. Plus the Pakistanis have their hands full weeding out their own fundamentalists in order to ensure stability in the country. They have nothing to win by going the way of Iran.

Iran is the real danger, to the U.S. and the world, and it's obvious as we write today. We cannot allow Tehran to possess nuclear weapons! Going off on some tangent about Pakistan isn't solving anything.
