Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default RE: Bush wants Gitmo "to end"!

I don't really care WHO makes the decision. SOMEONE should make the decision and let's get on with it. I support Bush in many areas, but this topic is a disgrace, in my opinion, to America. I don't buy the excuse that we're at war. I have no problem with locking up suspected terrorists or terrorist aids with the understanding that some of them will be innocent. That is one of the perils of war. However, we KNOW there are innocent people in Gitmo, and a lot of them have been there for three years now. How much longer do we hold them unnecessarily? Our actions in Iraq and Afghanistan could continue for five, 10, 15 more years. Let's get the trials underway in either military court or civilian court and get them over with, so the people who are guilty can go back to prison and those who are innocent can be released to return to their families.

Bowing to pressure from the courts, the public, international law, and the USConstitution, Bushapparently now feels that it would be best for Gitmo to just "end" - having little or no evidence to hold many of the detainees longer. Bush now agrees the courts should make the final call.

Who is the "decider?"
I'd say Bush is the "Decider", but because of the mixed bag of international laws to sift through, he is wise to proceed this way...

Gitmo has served its purpose and it is time to free the innocent and prosecute the guilty.

It really takes a stretch of the imagination to call these detainees POWs unless they were part of an organized force, even then with the exception of Russia at the end of WWII POWs have been traditionaly repatriated to their home countries after the war was over.
