Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Israeli Petrol Company Halts Fuel Supplies to Palestinian Authority

The Israeli company that provides fuel to the Palestinian areas is cutting off supplies due to growing debts, Israeli and Palestinian officials said Wednesday, a move that could deepen a humanitarian crisis brewing in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Maybe Iran will give em some fuel credit??

We'll see what kind of support they get. I'm guessing they'll get some help from Arab countries. Especially the ones that don't want Palestinians emigrating to their country.

Summits helped win the Cold war and helped precipitate the fall of the Soviet Union.
I thought it was that trying to keep up with the United States in an arms race was bankrupting the SU. They had no choice.

Regarding Hamas, I see no problem isolating them. Not because they are not the kind of democracy we want them to be. Rather because they are a terrorist organization.

NC what you thought is absolutely correct, if any thing summits more then likely simply delayed the fall of the USSR.

I hear ya, Ifferd, NC, check this...

Palestinians to receive international aid.

International peacemakers have agreed on a plan to channel humanitarian aid directly to the Palestinian people -- bypassing the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority (PA).

http://sympaticomsn.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20060509/palestinians_fighting_060510

A surprise statement by Mideast mediators on Tuesday did not say precisely how much or what kind of aid they would provide, but it did agree that withholding funding was harming the Palestinian people.
Hamas welcomed the plan, but criticized moves to sideline the PA.

To by-pass or not to by-pass, that is the question....

Perhaps a little of both strategies may work? Some limited negotiations with sanctions that don't punish the Plaestinian people unfairly? After all, a freely elected government is just that - even if the people choose to elect a terrorist org/ruler.
Perhaps. But it's hard not to punish a govenment and not its people too. AND, I'm not sure that our reputation with the Palestinian people will improve no matter what kind of aid or diplomacy we provide. They teach their children that the US (and Isreal of course) is an evil country that needs to be destroyed. It is engrained in the culture there.

The Palestinians are hopeless. Nothing we do will change that. As far as I'm concerned, the less cash and other resources they have, the less effective terrorists they are.

OK, isolating them won't make them play nice...but since nothing else will either, at least we can save ourselves the time and trouble of treating them like diplomatic equals.

you make a good point aught six, why give them money to use against us?

the government plays with guns but doesn't play well with others...

the government sponsors suicide bombers and terrorist attacks...

the governement preaches hatred...the people voted them in...then it's safe to say the people follow hatred....and they keep breeding hatred ( and literally )...eventually there will be an entire population raised on lies and hatred....

not where I'd like to see my tax dollars go...

OHHHHH wait I got it all backwards...we have to give them money cus they hate us...LMAO
