Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default A four day work-week, would it help?

I heard a report the other day saying that if the USA reduced its driving by just 3% then the gas prices would crash.

I am wondering if all the businesses that could go to a 4 day, ten hours a day, work week did, would this come close to meeting the goal of reducing the driving by 3%.

What do you think?

Is this something that maybe GWB should be promoting?

Thanks
Mr-Pirk

why not go for the gold.....lets just drop a day, 8-hour 4-day work week. who's with me

not sure if it would help actually, because people may just take more 3 day trips and/or more boating, ATVing ect...

I have a 60 mile trip to work.
46 weeks a yearx 60 miles dayx 5 days = 13,800 miles

46 weeks a yearx 60 miles dayx4 days = 11,040 miles

Savings of 20%

At 30 MPG I'll use 460 gallons of gas doing the 5 days per week.

At 30 MPG at 4 days per week I'll use 368 gallons.

About $275 in gas alone I save, not to mention extra wear and tear on vehicle.

BTW I recently went to four 10 hour days and love it. I currently work Mon-Thu for Fri/Sat/Sun off and the shift is 8 am - 6 pm at night.

I think in many states it's illegal to workj 10 hour days. Anything after 8 hours is an OT deal, mandatory breaks/lunches etc etc. I'm lukcy that my boss says screw the legislation, we'll do it our way

Lol, if we only worked four days, we'd still spend the fifth day driving around pursuing recreational opportunities. Americans love to drive--no policy can change that. Perhaps such a plan would help home bodies save money on gas, but I sincerely doubt it would lead to an overall decrease in national consumption.

You may very well be in the minority. Traffic in some major metro areasis nearlyas bad on the weekends as it is during the work week. That's certainly the case around here.

Unless you guys work as secretaries, bank tellers or other low paying jobs, you better be careful for wat you wish for. To maximize productivity, management will put you on a 4 day on/off schedule or a 3/4/3/4 rotating schedule. Either way you can say hello to a lot of weekend work and 12 hr overnight shifts. I spent the last 3 years working such a schedule in my last job, and I won't do it again, the toll it took on my health and marriage was too great.

My wife works three days one week and four days the next amd alternates back and fourth. She has a three day weekend every other week. She works 7:30 am-7:30 pm. That comes out to working half the days. She loves that schedule.

We no longer take many weekend trips, Just can't afford that much for gas. Out here, everything is 100 miles away. When I go to the VA thats 120 mile round trip. The wife only has five miles to work and I have about ten blocks. I however just work part time. We may well have to cancel our vacation for this year.

I just don't understand how any of you could be unhappy with your jobs. Its only the unskilled under paid jobs that are going to china.Free trade only affects the unskilled poor performing employees. All you really smart people never have to worry about your jobs.

I just had to say that .We all will pay before this B. S. ends .
