Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

I don't what to make of it a direct overature to the president. Maybe he's getting nervous? But I don't think anyone really thinks the US will bomb Iran right now. Do they?

I agree NC, butIran has turned the other cheek and I am curious as to why...I hope Bush takes his time opening it, like maybe next week after he's taken care of other things ....

I doubt the US will have to do the dirty work if it comes to that, Isreal will (With some back door assistance from the US) take care of them if it comes to that.

Since they've already threatened to strike Israel first if the US makes a move that would be my guess too . If it happens there won't be any holding Israel back like Desert Storm .

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I think this letter is another stalling tactic. Just like Kim Jong-il likes to do, act as though you're willing to sit down and negotiate, then deny any and all compromises when you actually get to talking.

It's a matter of a couple years before Iran has deployable nuclear warheads, but with the U.S. and Europe calling for sanctions, some delaying tactics are in order to keep things moving in Tehran.

"Given the fact that the issue of Iran is before the United Nations at this time, certainly one of the hypotheses you'd have to examine is whether and in what way the timing of the dispatch of that letter is connected with trying in some manner to influence the debate before the Security Council,"

A White House official said the letter had not officially been received.

An Iranian government spokesman said the letter, the first from an Iranian head of state to an American president in 27 years, did not mention the nuclear standoff but rather addressed the larger U.S.-Iranian conflict "” which dates to the 1979 hostage crisis.

The letter is prob at a air tight facility right now being carefully open to see if any kind of deadly chemical or plague might of been sent with it....I wouldn't open a letter from the president of Iran if we was having this type of conflict....This would be like a trojan horse.....So I do hope he is smart enough to have it opened in a air tight facility and checked out first...
