Default Kennedy intoxicated at crash

US politician Patrick Kennedy crashed his car near the US Capitol early today, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated.
Kennedy said he had had no alcohol before the accident.
Kennedy, a Democrat from Rhode Island, is the son of Senator Edward Kennedy and nephew of assassinated President John F Kennedy.
He issued a statement about the accident after a spate of news reports.
"I was involved in a traffic accident last night at First and C Street SE near the US Capitol," Kennedy said in the statement released by his office.
"I consumed no alcohol prior to the incident. I will fully cooperate with the Capitol Police in whatever investigation they choose to undertake."
Kennedy appeared to have been intoxicated when he crashed his car into a concrete barrier on Capitol Hill, said Louis Cannon, president of the Washington chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Cannon, who was not at the crash scene, said the officers involved in the accident were instructed by an official "above the rank of patrolman" to take Kennedy home.
Sobriety tests were not conducted at the scene.

The problem is there is NO SOLID PROOF that he did anything wrong.
I am a Strong Republican so of course I think he was drunk. After all he is a Kennedy. I just wishwe had the evidence to back it up for a conviction.

There's no proof because he was given preferential treatment by a few officers who "took over" the process from those on the scene. Another drunken Kennedy car crash complete withlies and special treatment!

I assumed that any auto accident under the described circumstances would automatically result in a sobriety test. Guess i was wrong.

So if he is blaming it on meds, why hasn't he been arrested for a DUI? It is illegal to drive under the influence of a drug the impairs your abilty to operate a motor vehicle isn't it?

A statement on the police Web site said, "The United States Capitol Police are investigating a traffic violation that occurred in the early morning hours ... in the 100 Block of C Street, SE." They did not identify who was involved or provide other details.

of course it will take a while to fabricate a good story, right?

Capitol physician confirmed he was taking Ambien and fennigrin (sp?). Both make you very sleepy, I've taken fennigrin for nausea and it was powerful, I can't imagine taking it with a sleep aide - it is amazing he could get out of bed.

No breath test? That's the job of the cops, if they didn't do it, that's their problem.
He was apparently whisked away by senior officers before it happened.

I'm sure they would have done that for any number of Congressmen. Doesn't make it right. But considering the Kennedy track record, it's more likely to happen to them than any other rep.
