President Bush announced Tuesday that he will temporarily halt deposits to the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve, freeing more oil for consumer needs in the hope of relieving prices at the pump.
In a speech at the Renewable Fuels Association in Washington, Bush said, "By deferring deposits until the fall, we'll leave a little oil on the market. Every little bit helps."

Tapping the SR just because of $3.00 per gallon gas is a useless gesture at best , and could even be dangerous if a real emergency were to come up . I've never liked that gamble .

What did it achieve the last time they did it ? I was still paying $3 per gallon , so all the oil companies did was borrow even more oil to gouge us with since the pump price never declined one penny . The purpose of the SR was to provide emergency petroleum reserves in cases of a national emergency , I hate the gas prices too but to my mind a bunch of people who can't get their foot off of the gas pedal whining about gas prices just doesn't qualify as one .
