Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

A price gouging investigation by Congress

I like the idea of usinga highprofit taxto help offset the cost of fuel at the pump and orpay for the war effort...oil company share holders won't like it but they probably don't feel the gas price pinch anyway...

Any price gouging investigation of this sort would be benefitial...it would take some of the mystery out of it all for the average Joe/Jane counting spare change for a tank of gas these days.

It still blows my mind that Exxon-Mobil's recent record profit margin came to about25 cents per gallon, yet the federal government taxes 18.4 per gallon, along with another 20/30/40 cent per gallon tax coming from the states.

When you consider that, it becomesobvious why Congress is going after the oil companies. When's the last time politicians accepted responsibility for anything that hurts American pocketbooks?

Thats the point Bernie, every time someone in the western world outside the USAtries to conserve a gallon of gas, an american burns it in his boat.
Your gas is actually cheap, cheap cheap.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,192968,00.html

Bush's actions are part of a four-part plan to address gas prices in the short- and long-term, McClellan said. The steps are:
"”Making sure consumers and taxpayers are treated fairly.
"”Promoting greater fuel efficiency.
"”Boosting gasoline supply at home.
"”Aggressive long-term investment in alternative fuels.

Quick pull my finger...>!!!

A "high profit tax" is so contrary to everything this country is about (or should I say 'used to be'?). If we do that, the next step is limiting the amount of money individuals make a year. Then, let's limit the net worth of people too. People like Bill Gates shouldn't be allowed to have that much money.

We aren't "entitled" to cheap gas. If you want gas, buy it. If you think you are getting screwed, ride a bike. If the companies (or some entity) is doing something illegal, then let the "authorities" step in. Otherwise, the price is up to the people using the product.
