That account didn't mention what charges he pled guilty to, but very often, these seemingly lenient sentences are the fault of prosecutors. Judges are bound by the law to deal out specific sentences depending on the crime. Almost always in these plea deals, the criminals plea because they're allowed to plea down . . . A guy charged with second degree murder pleads guilty to manslaughter; a guy charged with accessory to first degree murder pleads guilty to facilitation of second degree murder, etc. And the sentences are always less lenient than they otherwise could've been. Most times, in my opinion, these plea agreements should never be allowed. When the prosecutors have all the evidence they need to get a guilty verdict, a plea shouldn't even be discussed unless the suspect is pleading guilty to the original charges. I suspect that they do it to save taxpayers' money and time, but the victims almost always come out on the losing end.
