Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Home grown Energy?

Well here we go again with the supply and demand that some are so proud of. Although U.S oil supplies are now at near all time high's, the gas price goes up again. To top that off, where I live, our home grown grain fuels now cost more than plain old regular gas. So much for decreasing our dependance on energy form the middle east. The oil we save will fatten the oil cats even more. The heating season is about done, the summer driving season has not really started but guess who is getting ready to fleece us again?[:@]

Archer Daniels Midland?

Our state almost got screwed a few months ago when the state legislature who are bought and paid for by the ethanol industry came very close to mandating that all gasoline in the state contain 10% ethanol. Heavy pressure from the constituents is about the only thing that saved the day.

The gas prices are so high now because of the lack of ethanol refineries. Apparently, ethanol is replacing MTBE as the gas additive for emission standards, but we lack the appropriate refinery capacity. RIDICULOUS!

The EPA ruled earlier this year that MTBE and Ethanol are no longer required to be added to gasoline. Seems that the EPA came to their senses and acknowledged that these two additives don't have any benifits. MTBE is a carcinogen, and ethanol degrades the quality of the gasoline making it necessary to burn more blended gasoline to get from point A to Point B- creating more pollution. Many local areas aroud the country still require the ethanol additive because the politicians are beholden to the ethanol industry.

Wow I didn't know that ethanol was just a gag. The Brazilians are almost completely self sufficient for car gas with sugar cane based fuels. They have almost no oil production of their own.

Here's about the only realistic way for Joe Public to cut the cord at least cost:

If I remember correctly, the transition from MTBE to ethanol was supposed to be complete by 2007, yet the industry and Congress are calling for an extension of the deadline.

I doubt it will affect actual gas prices much, though.

You can run cars on ethanol, but a gasoline/ethanol blend really doesn't accomplish much economically or environmentally. We're far from an ethanol only country.

Yep. Id also like to add, have you ever been to Brazil? They are not near as dependent on automobils for transprotation. Shoot, the whole country is not as big as one or our biggest states.
