Robert Hirsch wonders where all the statesmen have gone. Ed Laliberte wishes politicians would stop bickering and start fixing the nation's ills. Diane Heller says everybody in Washington is corrupt or out of touch.
"I don't see any great leaders on the horizon," says Heller, a Pleasant Valley, N.Y., real estate broker.
These voters are not alone. More and more, Americans are frustrated with politics as usual in Washington, where incompetence, arrogance, corruption and mindless partisanship seem the norm rather than the exception "” a pox on both the Republican and Democratic parties.
Analysts say the public may be getting angry enough to give the U.S. political system a jolt, one way or another.
I've witnessed a growing number of extremely PO'ed constituents promise to ignorethe rules of partisanship and simply vote against any incumbent who is out of touch, regardless of party. I've already made my stand and promised the same to my senators regarding the proposed illegal immigration bills, and my representative is next. The waffling and straddling of issues has gone far enough. We're at war, for crying out loud, and this is no time for our officials to push the status quo.
Democrats; Republicans. Six one; half dozen the other. It's hard to tell the difference these days. They all want to spend, spend, spend.
IMO we need a viable third party to really shake things up. They wouldn't necessarily need to win an election, but just present enought of a threat to make the two major parties take reform seriously.
Judging by the title of this post, I thought you were talking about illegal aliens.
But I'm also ready to throw out gooberment bums as well. How do we decide who's a bum, and who's not?
That's a good point. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure which group of bums is worse than the other.
Obviously each person will hold a different view on the definition of an elected"bum", but some issues are common sense. For instance, take immigration (this is the most important domestic issue at the moment, IMHO).
I don't count on polls much, but I was struck by a recent USA Today/Gallup poll in which 81% of respondents agreed that illegal immigration in the US is out of control. Despite all of the anger and frustration that legal Americans aredisplaying over the problem, Congress once again sits there with its collective thumb up its @#$, praying that this will all blow over before the 2006 election.
I'm tired of these idiots avoiding themost criticalissues in the name of partisanship, or worse yet, political correctness. We didn't elect them so that they can hang out and get re-elected automatically next time. We expect and demand results, and for this reason, I believe that most incumbents need to be shown the door.
IMO we need a viable third party to really shake things up. They wouldn't necessarily need to win an election, but just present enought of a threat to make the two major parties take reform seriously.
What we really need is two dozen viable parties so that for once we could have some real choice and a more balanced mix in Congress . Term limits would also be a refreshing change . The Golden Parachute definitely needs to be removed with hot tongs , and their ability to vote themselves raises should likewise be forcibly removed . Above all else a strict code of ethics with legal repercussionsshould bemandatedto them and rigidly enforced .

This illegal immagration thing should be a no brainer. If someone is here illegally, they need to pitched out NOW. How could it be any more simple. Citizens are not allowed to ignore the laws so why in the HHHHH should illegals be granted a free pass. I am sick of hearing about how bad we need these illegals here to do the jobs that americans won't do. Pay a decent wage and americans will be glad to do the job.

I would be willing to do ANY of the jobs they do, for what they are making now- if it would mean they would get the hell out of our country. Just like James B said- why can't Americans break laws, if illegals can? Isn't that exactly backwards?
