Dr Mind has another successful diagnosis ( sleep apnea )
co-worker is "suffering" from sleep apnea. The local "doctors" rold him to buy one of those expensive breathing machines and of course, medical coverage paid for it.
anyway, today was the day he got the "results". I listened to him explain the situation and then told him " You're 5' 11", size 9 shoe and you weigh 340 pounds. THAT is your problem. Sleep apnea will go away when you drop pounds "
Anyway, he comes back and guess what they told him ? He needs to do "rapid weight loss" to "cure" his "apnea"
DUH ! You reckon ?
They told him to tape whiffle balls to his back. Why ? To keep him from sleeping on it at night - his huge gut and breasts (yes, the man has boobs) is crushing his lungs, chest and upper chest cavity at night.

Last time I drank a bunch of whiskey, I held my breath for about a minute or so while gulping it down...afterwardsthe dizzy spins stopped when I felloff my porch into the tall grass....woke up with hay in my hairand mosquito bites all over...didn't feel a thing, slept like a baby...however the sun seemed really bright the following day and everything and everyone seemed to move very fast...come to think of it, it was a really good night sleep...would I do it again?

Dr. Mind is a brilliant man. He can diagnose and cure most diseases, and although eating healthy enough himself he will never get those diseases, he can show the light, the truth, and the way to others. Science has nothing on him. Oh, and death and destruction to all Americans.

Im 6'4" 200lbs. Im not fat by any means and I get sleep apnea every now and then. Went about 3 years with out sleeping worth a crap. Got kids now, and it is amazing how that can help with sleep apnea. I have not had much of a problem since I adopted my daughters. Its been 7 years since and I have had little problems withgetting sleepin that time.
Canuck
I can relate with that. In college I found myself waking in many strang places. I guess that is why I dont drink much any more. A beer or mixed drink a month is now my average.

6'4" 250lb- a little overweight but not a fat bastard by any means, I got diagnosed in january with sleep apnea. The CPAP machine is a lifesaver, before I had it, I stopped breathing about 120 times/hour and my blood oxygen would fall to <80%. Most of the weight I gained since college when I weighed 230lbs and was running 5 miles per day was probably due to the problem. Sleep apnea is no joke, it will kill you at a young age if you don't take care of it. Rapid weight loss can certainly alleviate or eliminate the problem, but that would be impossible to do if you are too tired to do anything and are plagued with constant migranes- you feel like you are wading waste deep in water all day long.
The best part of it all, since I've gone on CPAP, my wife lets me sleep in bed again- no more snoring.

I had some mild problems with sleep apnea. Losing 30 lbs seems to have done the trick - no problems any more.
It's funny (or sad, depending on one's perspective) that the doctor never told me to lose weight. Maybe they were afraidthey might getsued: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9063638/
