was at walmart the other day back by the auto area. i heard one associate say to other do you speak spanish. there was some guythat needed help that could hardly speak english. You just want to tell them this is a America speak english.

OK, but we can take it too far. If the Spanish speaking guy stays in the US permanently and makes no attempt whatsoever to learn the language, there is a problem. But we always have had people in this country that don't speak the langauge.

We do not have a national language, but it is understood that English is the most used language of America.Nowwhat really pisses me off is that there has actually been a vote to try to make spanish the official language of Texas. As you can tell it never flew.

The thing I don't understand is that our Declaration of Independence, ourConstitution, and all of the other official documents that have formed our government were and are written in English, yet so many believe that we shouldn't have an official language.
An official language is just that--for official purposes. The feds couldn't and wouldn't force people to speak English in their free time. This is about one language for the sake of national unity, not ethnic purification.
I dont care if you speak another language at home or among others that understand you. If you want to work or talk among us that speak english. Speak in ENGLISH.

Now let's look at the other side of the coin , the reason given for trying to legitimize the illegals is to provide American businesses with an endless source of cheap labor . Well , if they learn english will they still be content to do menial labor ? If business wants cheap labor here then why are they offshoring so many jobs ?

It is pretty cool to be able to talk in front of other people who can't understand you. When my buddy comes up from Louisiana for deer season, we hang out in my Dad's garage and speak Cajun French a lot. We do it at Walmart too when we want to talk about women working there.

I understand that but when your ancestors immigrated to this country, did they know how to speak the langauge when they stepped off of the boat? I think that immigrants coming here to permanently live here should learn English. They can't all melt into the melting pot overnight.
