Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default School giving extra credit for joining protests

This beats all. A high school in Maryland is allowing extra credit being given to students who join the protest against immigration legislation Congress is considering. It seems to graduate 60 hours of community service must be rendered, which in itself is a good idea IMO. But why is credit being given for joining this protest? Is it serving the community..........I think not.

I saw that on the TV earlier today, if the morons in that city allow the current schoolboard members to continue to hold their seats then they are getting EXACTLY what they deserve!!!

Montgomery County is the most liberal constituency in the state of Maryland, as we can seewith a socialist clown like Doug Duncan sitting in the County Executive's office. There is a huge illegal immigrant population there because the county is more than happy to dole out costly social services at the expense of lawful citizens. It's no surprise that Democrats across the country are pandering to illegals in order to get their vote down the road (after the next round of amnesty).

It makes me sick to know that kids are being rewarded with credit for such BS, but it really doesn't come as a shock.

On a side note, this state-mandated community service program is a joke. I went to high school in Virginia for a year and came back to Maryland to graduate. That was the first yearthat the "Service Learning"program was implemented, and since I hadn't spent four consecutive years in a Maryland high school, I was forced to take the class before graduating (apparently I wasn't considered an active member of the community if I hadn't been there four years in a row). I had signedup to take AP Computer Science, but the bureacrats in Annapolis obviously knew what's best for me, so Service Learning it was.

To make a long story short, I learned nothing and accomplished nothing. The teacher droned on about the importance of contributing to the community, but it was all talk. We were supposed to work as a class, so we decided to pick up trash along the road outside of school, except we weren't permitted by the school to do so becausesafetyliability issues. Then there was the idea of volunteering at a local retirement home, except the school wouldn't approve that activity either.

The semester dragged itself by, and at the end of the year I wrote a scathing essay on the worthlessness of the program and the frustration I felt at being encouraged to help the community only to be told to stay seated in school. The teacher seemed a little shocked when she reviewed the essay with me, but I did get an A for the class.

I guess timeshave changed since kids are now being encouraged to associate with criminals in downtown Washington. That's the way to help improve your community!

I read about that and just about dropped a load. Isnt that called forced
inundation? I guess the kids could do other civil duties to get their credit for community service. Im kinda confussed as to why this is concidered community service, it doesnt serve the whole community.[/align]
