Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default young people and politics

Why is it that it seems many young people dont really care whats going on in politics right now. Has it always been like this? At 23 I am very interested in politics. If you dont know whats going on say you vote how are you going to make a educated vote?

You don't have to know what is going on when you're young. You just vote Democrat, regardless.

I could have cared less when i was younger. I didnt start getting intersted until I was in my 20s. About 21 I believe. I think it comes from a lack of knowledge
and life experience. As people get older, they start noticing there is more to the world than just what they can see.[/align]

I think young people pay more attention when they are personally affected by the tax code. Before they get out and start making a living, taxes aren't a big issue. I always got a big tax refund when I was in my teens because I was making so little money.

But, my interest in politics is less now than when I was 20. Primarily because I feel like both parties are so motivated by politics that little real change can get done. I was idealistic back then and more realistic now.

I dont like Bush and what he is doing to this country. Is it so hard to find people that are willing to speak on this subject. Everyone my age just wants to get laid, drunk, and watch trashy TV. I want to get out there and fight and make things right in the government. Our fore fathers, and many other men and women that have fought in past wars fought to make this a safe country for us. Theseguys that running the country are really screwing it up.

If more people actually kept up with politics, I dare say we wouldn't have been in many of the quagmires we have found ourselves in throughout the last 40 or so years.

What todays young people have seen of politics over the last decade or so would not give them much hopethatanything will ever change.

I agree with the notion that most youngsters simply don't care because they are either still living off mommy and daddy or they don't have a household and family to pay for.

I think you can sum it ALL up with this old saying:

If you are a conservative at 20, you are heartless!
If you are still a liberal at 40 you are BRAINLESS!!!

Personally I was BORN conservative...

I could say the same thing for the young people I see every day.

Politics has always been an ugly, nasty business. I worked on the Hill 16 years ago and the same sheeeet going on now was going on back then ( and 50 years earlier). Everyone spends an inordinate amount of time trying to make the other guy look "arrogant and incompetent" as the current talking point goes.

I'll follow that up by saying that I think it's disgusting and have almost no stomach for it.
