In Afganistan, I see they are letting the Christian guy go who converted.
I like to think of myself as independent. But I do admire conservatives approach to problems compared to the far left. They do things behind the scenes, put pressure on issues, toplay both sides and finesse the people. Sometimes it bites em on the butt, but far left, goes out in the streets, parading like a bunch of monkeys, chanting and showing thier rears in public to get thier ways. Basically embarrassing the US.
Both methods seem to get what they want sooner or later, but both have thier reprecussions.
For instance, they got the guy off by saying he's crazy in the head. Ok, they accomplished the mission, but in the mean time we (mostly christian) are fighting to build roads for them. It would have been nice if they drove home the fact, that you can kill folks for converting if you are going to accept democracy. So I got mixed feelings.
For them, that is probably a very big step. A lot of people forget what development levels bring to a country. And compared to the U.S., much of the Middle East in many ways reminds me of the settlement of the American West. Just picture the Muslims as the settlers and everyone else as the Native Americans.

Where was the out cry from the Christian Coallition in this case? Have they offered to help him find asylum - or any help at all for that matter?

Actually there has been an outcry.. and help has been offered... Some just don't like to toot their own horn, and make it out to be the spectacle it has become.
he got off because of " Mental problems". What happens the next time, or the time after that?
I think texian nailed it. We have a plan to get from A to B. B being not wanting to kill someone because of religious beliefs. A being where they are now, ingrained in beleifs where their handbook calls for the death of someone doing that. How do we do that the fastest and easiest way, still uphold the Karsai (sp?) and not let him lose face, not enrage the people to riots, causing more problems? A smart man, understands you can't push or force our beliefs on them but it has to be gradual. For lack of better terms, win the hearts and minds. Make them want to embrace our ideals. How does one do that? How would you do that? I am not so ignorant to say I have the answer other than time.
