If you look at FDR's New Deal,it was his position thatthe only way for a government to dig out of a recession is to spend its way out, domestically. FDR created the Tennessee Valley Authority, and gave tens of thousands of government jobs to build infrastructure in the midwest.
G-Dub is trying to follow the alternative economic model - spend your way out of recession by engaging in a war. Now, in years past, this would spur the industrial sector (as it did under FDR), as raw war materials were needed in bulk. The flaw here is that the funding is no longer funnelled into the domesticindustrial sector - it's headed to the tech sector, which is already burgeoning, and to rebuild Iraqi infrastructure using Iraqi resources. So, we're spending billions, but not creating any good, production-level jobs.
Enter this plan - this looks like it could beanother T.V.A. type project that would follow more with the FDReconomic model (which I feel is a better model). This would create productive,good-pay jobs, and would actually confer a benefit ontoAmericans (much like the dams and levees built under the FDR administration did).
I love this plan, but I have to admit that I'm biased. Iloathe illegal aliens.
If quiksilver ran things, instead of dumping money in Iraq, we'd be dumping money on oursouthern border in the form of a 30-foot palisade wall.

Screw a huge beuracracy to build this wall. I like Dennis Miller's approach to building a wall along out entire southern border. Let the illegals in to build it, pay them very little, promise them citizenship and then once done...

That wall makes about as much sense as the chain link fences they already have in some places on the border , none . The only wall that will turn back the torrent of illegal aliens is a wall of lead . [:@]

He'll grant amnesty to any illegal alien who feels like pitching in for a slave's wage. Then, maybe he'll draft them to fight the war on terror. If they're still living, he'll give them to Dickie C., who will hire them at Halliburton at minimum wage to put out oil fires and do underwater welding. If they survive that, they can just go on welfare, it's the American way.

I think if anyone is serious about illegal immigration they would support this. Being from TX, I don't want a huge wall along the border of my state, but if it's keeping illegals out, so be it. I'm in support of ANYTHING they are doing to try to stop this problem.
Just earlier this afternoon there was a story on the news here about a car wreck. A pickup crossed 4 lanes of traffic and hit a car head on, killing the girl driving it. He was drunk, but ran from the scene and cops found him a few hours later. Guess what: ILLEGAL ALIEN. What the hell was he doing driving? Hundreds of stories like this.
I think people who are sitting on the fence pointing fingers should really think about the problem here, not try to play politics. If the House is voting on this- I support it because it would help (not solve) our border problems, no matter if I like Bush or not. You can cry about Bush all you want, but at least SOMETHING is being done, or at least they're trying.
Who cares who gets the credit?
