The Bush Administration wants to sell 300,000 acres of national forest land and use the money for help in building new schools? The reason I ask is this........could this pave the way for future projects from this or future administrations by selling off America.
Man I wish we had an ignorance filter on this forum for posts like the one proceeding this.
Cougar, I think it's a terrible precident that is being set. Unfortunately, I DO think it is the sign of things to come. I don't understand how Bush can be so right on some things, then be so wrong on things like the environment. Of course in the eyes of most Republicans, I guess, there's nothing wrong with selling off public land. It's a shame that the Republicans are so anti-environment (I would classify preserving land as an environmental issue even if it technically isn't).

You think maybe there was a reason the Issaac Walton League refused to endorse Bush in the last presidential election?
This is one of the reasons I am against ANWR, and let me say, if ANWR comes through, along with the pipeline, I could probably sell my house here and move somewhere else cheaper, and probably never worry about money again in my life. Does a little chunk of land on the North Slope really matter all that much???? Nah, of course it does not. However, the precedent of going into a Wildlife Refuge because there is something there that we want scares the hell out of me as a hunter, which is why I won't support it. If we were truly in dire straits regarding oil, I might feel differently. However, we have just spent 3000 American lives (well actually more than that because there are survivors who are affected) 300 BILLION dollars with no end in sight, in a country that owns the second largest oil field in the world, and a gallon of gasoline is still expensive enough to affect my spending habits. Hardly seems fair.

Hey fellow, I'm a solid Republican and I donate lots to preserve land. I'm part of Audubon and they fight like the dickens to preserve land. I get my best devotions in my deer stand or in my boat. I know there are other Republicans such as I ,so you can't stereo type all Republicans to a fit a certain mold.
Amen
Chuck, I know that not all Republicans are in favor of destroying the environment to make a buck. I know quite a few Republicans in favor of preserving our environment. Unfortunately, most Republicans fit that mold. It's as easy to label the GOP anti-environment as it is to label the Democrats pro-abortion or gun-grabbers.

"It's as easy to label the GOP anti-environment as it is to label the Democrats pro-abortion or gun-grabbers." Ben
I certainly agree with that. I was raised to where all Democrats were bad people. You are correct to say we can't label folks. Our society is getting real scary. I can see it in the school system. For some reason the government is wanting more and more control in alot of areas. They honestly can not make those desisions for us sitting back in their chairs behind a desk eatting donuts and getting caffeined up. They ae over reacting to the few bad apples in society.Instead of firing or fining the few bad out there, they try make us all look like a bunch of incompetent losers. I'm seeing this more and more. And by the them I'm talking about the ones I voted for.I'm not so sure what party I would vote for anymore. There's alot of shaky stuff going on.
I am a Canadian conservative. (fiscal, not religious)I am pro gun, but not anti abortion.
I am pro social medicine and a bit anti union.
I am pro industry but believe we need ballance. I am against the selling off public land. I dont mind paying more for gas, I just waist less.
In ballance I am a typical Canadian, whether left or right, welive in the centre.
Why isAmerican politics so polarized (black and white)?
