The Senateis trying to tell Bush that "We need to stop the genocide going on in Sudan ." and has passed a resolution to this effect . Why is what's going on thereany of our business ? Should we send troops at a time when our armed forces are already spread thinly ?

Yes, I think it is our business. We are the brightest beacon of freedom in this world for a reason. If we can have the means to do it - meaning, if we have enough firepower not tied up in the Middle East - I think we owe it to humanity to do something. I hate to see American servicemen and women potentially lay down their lives trying to stamp out human filth in Sudan, but I believe that if any of us truly understood the extent of the people's plight over there, we'd believe it a worthy cause.

In terms of American interests, Sudan is fairly significant. It's been known for its ties to terrorism in the past--remember when BJ Clinton decided not to bomb bin Laden during his staythere? Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorist groups still maintain a presence to this day.

Now, when it comes to the genocide, I think this is a job for NATO. The UN has proven its incompetence and should not be trusted to deal with this problem. I believe the U.S. should lead any peace-keeping operation in Sudan, but I don't believe we should deploy the bulk of the military forces there. It's time to have some other countries carry the weight of humanitarian aid.

Ifwe have the influence and power (in that order) to try to prevent the wholesale slaughter of innocent human-being in large numbers why wouldn't it be our business?

If it was you and your family living in such a repressive, murderous dictatorship with little hope to get out or fight the dictators off, wouldn't you hope for someone who could help you and your people to do so? Or would you "walk by on the other side of the road" and pretend you didn't see. History judges those who try to take action to free and save lives far better than those who do nothing. That goes for countries and individuals.
