Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default NRA Scam

I got a call from the NRA the other day. First person on the phone is just making the call and asked me if I would be willing to answer a "one question poll". I said sure. I am a firm believer in the right to own arms. I do not believe it is intended to protect sporting arms alone like some do. It has nothing to do with hunting. Happy to state my opinion.

Second person gets on the phone does NOT ask a question, but sets into a NRA sales pitch. NO question on gun ownership or such. Pure and simple sales. If there was a question in there, I sure couldn't understand it. All I heard was to the effect "am in interested in protecting firearms rights by joining or contributing to the NRA?"

I don't care for sales calls, but really don't have a lot of heart burn with them, but to out and out lie and tell me it is a poll when it is pure and simple sales call - I've lost a lot of respect for the NRA.

I don't fool with any inbound calls from any organizations. If I want to talk to them I'll call. If they want to call me then be prepared to be disconnected instantly or be used for pure entertainment value.

Two times they sent me a hunting video ( the same video sent twice about a year apart) Then a few weeks later they send a bill for the video and state in their letter that if I don't want the video, to return it in the package it was sent in. I didn't ask for the video, they just sent it, then a bill latter on.I didn't pay the bill and they kept sending letters for me to pay up. I didn't think that was right. To send something and ask for payment a few weeks later. I didn't know I was to save the packaging to return it. They never said anything in the letterwith the video, that I needed to save the packaging to return it. If I wanted a hunting video I'd of ordered one. Anyway I never paid them for it. About a year later they sent the same video again and a few weeks later a bill for it. Needless to say, I kept that video too and never paid for it.I think the NRA is stooping pretty low to do something like this.

Zek, to me for quite sometime now, the NRA has seemed to be more about scare tactics and raising money than anything else.

Does anyone really believe that atleast once a month there is such a crisis that a special fund drive is needed.

Thanks

They probably drum up crises because 99% of gun owners are too complacent to care until the day after a class of firearms that they own are banned.

There are approximately 80-90 million gun owner in the US.
There are only 4 Million NRA members
There is probably only a small fraction of NRA members who contribute anymore than they have to or ever bother to call their legislators for that matter.

You aren't required to pay for unsolicited products , ask your local postmaster . You don't have to send them back either . BTW , that "Return postage guaranteed" package can only be sent back for free if it's unopened . If you get something that you know you haven't ordered just mark it "REFUSED" in big letters and put it back into the mailbox . Let them pay to have it back , you won't get anymore after that .

Also if you read the stuff that came with the package you would find out that you are not required to pay for it, they just asked you to send it back if you didn't want to keep it.

I just ignore them for the most part.

Briman got it right in his post--many gun owners areapathetic about RKBA, and even more don't bother joining the NRA period. The NRA needs money to stay operational, and they'll go after it in any way that they can. I pay my dues each year and throw away the additionalrequests for more money.

I will say that I'm very grateful for the NRA because it does a lot of good work (teaching gun safety and usage, lobbying Congress and the White House, alerting members to local and state issues, etc.) Not to mention the NRA HQ range is a few minutes from my place. I spend half as much for an hour at their indoor 50 yard range than I do at the closest 25 yard range.

I got a random call from who knows who asking me if I was apposed to animal cruelty and if I would like to hear about animal rights. I simply said, I think animals should not be abused and should not be killed cruely, and yes they do have rights. The right to set next to the beans and mashedpotatos. I hung up.

I was a member for quite a few years and then the same business with the video started and calls to sign up for another year after only 3 months. I believe in the fight to keep our rights to own a gun but I can't deal with those people. I told them that if they called me again or sent unsolicited material then I was through with NRA. They did and now I just hang up when they call.
