Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default If you could end welfar today...

would you? Not reform or modify, but completely end? Yes or no.

No. I just can't get past protecting the poor kids whose parents are too stupid, lazy or unlucky to provide adequate food or shelter for them. I wish I knew the answer, but there are really those that need it. There are certainly those that don't need it - don't get me wrong. But it's not black and white, unfortunately.

No.
I'm sure I will get a beating for this answer because I'm a huge "anti-welfare" proponent in some of my posts. But like Zekiah said- there are a few unlucky kids whose parents are too stupid to help themselves. I just hope the poor little kids don't grow up to be worthless trash like their parents.

No. What I would do is put a hard dollar cap on it. It would not go up with inflation. It would not go up in bad economic times. It would not go up when more qualified welfare recipients came knocking for their portion. It would not go up. And it would go down, ramping linearly down over 30 years. This gives people time to adapt. You don't have to like my view or agree with my view. I just don't think this is government's job.

Yes. Given the choice between ending it today or not ending it at all, I'd go for today. Best solution would be to ratchet it down to zero over a year or two to wean people off.

Not entirely , and not in one day , the economic impact would be devastating . I would phase it out over a reasonable period , probably 5 years , to give those currently receiving it time to find work . Those ruled incapable of working after extremely thorough scrutiny would continue to receive it .

Does anybody know how this country possibly survived 2 world wars and a major depression without welfare ? My grandmother grew up during the Depression , and somehow she and nearly everyone else survived without handouts from the goob .

No. not in its entirety, but I would love to see some drastic changes such as absolutely NO CASH, basic shelter, food and clothing provided, but that is it.

Eleminating the cash from the equation would leave those on the dole with virtually no way short of selling their clothes and food of throwing away our tax dollars.

There are those who truly need welfare, either due to retardation or handicap, in these cases I could see providing them with a little more then just the basics of life.

Trust me the people capable of working will get off the dole quickly when they have no cash to buy a TV or a car or going out to eat.

They could take some of those 10,000 trailers unoccupied from Katrina and set these folks up welfare trailer parks and provide free transportation to any one that is truly seeking employment.

People on welfare who actually find a full time job would recieve a non-tranferable voucher that would cover first and last months rent along with another non-tranferable voucher for very basic furniture, this would give them a decent start out on thier own.
