Stem-cell research splits US Republicans

About time - hopefully enough Republicans will finallyenter the 21st century and start supporting this. The Bush administration has already caused us to fall years behind.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The emotional debate over embryonic stem-cell research has sharply split the Republican Party and could become a prominent election-year issue, with key U.S. Senate races in Missouri and Maryland emerging as early battlegrounds.

The Republican rift pits religious conservatives and abortion foes who oppose the research on moral grounds against supporters who tout its potential benefits in fighting diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Thank God this administration wasn't around in earlier years or we'd still be doing surgery without anesthesia.

I dont care about a party line, Stem cell research should press forward as fast as possible.

My wife grandmother died with Alzheimers, her mother now has it and lives with us, and she is at risk herself.

On the other side my grandmother died of Lou garhigs[sp?] disease.

It is the most promising research we have today, and it should press forward.
