RE: The Budget Deficit: "Moma needs a new pair of shoes."
So how has the debt affected you? How will it affect you? Do you know who we owe most of the money too? These counties we owe, isn't it in thier best interest that America stays strong?
RE: The Budget Deficit: "Moma needs a new pair of shoes."
BC the debt has effected every single tax payer in the country, we all pay more taxes then we should due to having to pay on our national debt and we are not paying it down even, it continues to grow!
Until we give the President the line item veto pork barrel money will continue to increase the debt.
Another point which no one is willing to hear is that cutting taxes as we spend more does not stimulate the economy enough to pay down the debt.
Both the sitting president and the congress need to take steps to get it paid down bycutting spending and not cutting taxes!!!!

Thanks Taz. excellent reply. but I don't believe too many understand a deficit what it means.
A country is a business. And if the business is doing well, (us growth for instance in the black) then getting investers (deficit) to make the country do even better is a good thing. It also builds what we call invester confidence.
If a country (like liberia) have a growing deficit but is doing poorly, thats a bad thing.
I agree with you to a point. The deficit left unchecked even though we have healthy growth, can turn on us like a bad dog. And then here was we are spirelling out of control with neg. growth. But supposely thats why we have smart economist runnin the cash register.
Its kinda like the ole saying, you got to spend money to make money. If you just save, and never take a risk, then you will actually lose money thru appreciation of things. You need to at least recoup the interest every year. But I too am worried that the money we borrow may not be there usedto help us make more money but jury is still out. Some disagree for instance, they feel the war is black hole sucking out tax's. Some feel its a good investment for the future.
Many countries like Germany has tried to keep all investment and money in country and now they are paying for it.
Its all about balance. We just got to hope an pray who is minding the cash register is not drunk.
RE: The Budget Deficit: "Moma needs a new pair of shoes."
Well, then I guess you can say I am not a absolutist conservative. In fact, no president I have ever seen was one absulutely. Remember those wonderful yield bonds we had in the 70s. Same thing. In fact, I would like to say I am a moderate.
So with your example, it is best for a guy so save his money and put it under the bed. Bad news is lets say you save 5000 dollars in 1950 (years wage), it won't buy you much now. So most sane folks try to put in a interest bearing account to make sure they don't lose money. Rule of business. Got to spend money to make money. This is one of the principles that has made the US and UK a finanical powerhouse since WWII. Of course many other factors.
My friend this is an argument that gets rang in every Econ class from Harvard to Comm. college. Andwe ain't going to settle it here.

Just a thought, so please dont crucify me. A lot of money has go into a war effort. Bin Laden is the prime cause for us going to war. If Clintoon would have taken Bin Laden when he had the chance, would we be were we are today? Every one thinks Clintoon did the country a great service by his fiscal mind. It appears to me we were fat dumb and happy, ignoring things that had to be done, passing them on to the next president. The party was fun, but now its over.
Like I said, its just a thought.

Burn, I sure ain't taking up for Clintoon as you say but hind sight is always 20/20.
Yea, one attempt on the world trade center is not enough. I kinda saw that as foresight. But like I said, just a thought. Asprine factories were much cheaper to bomb.
