How many of you folks regardless of party affilliation actually believe that either party has our best interests at heart? Curious here...thanks in advance.
Hardcore Republican here. The Republican party has fought hard to gain the House, Senate, and White House, but has blown the opportunity completely. Other than installing a few SC justices that might turn out to be Constitutional Constructionists, the Republicans have done nothing. Newt Gingrich got a lot more done with a whole lot less working in his favor in the early 90s. Call me disenchanted and probably a vote for a Libertarian Party candidate in '08.

RE: Just wondering here...
That is the reason I do not vote for a party, but individuals. I feel the two party system wastes to much time and money. I think more would get accomplished if the party interest was put aside. Power equals money, and both groups want both.

Neither represent my interests. However, the Republicans' own interests are more closely aligned with mine. Coincidence really, but I'll take what I can get.
Thanks guys. Those thoughts pretty much echo mine. I always thought the Repubs may do something but they have turned out to be a terrible disappointment. Seems like they accomplished more in the minority as one poster noted. I thought the law McCain tried to pass about lobbying several years back was bad..but I think it would be a blessing now.
All they care about is winning the war with the other party. It is a war I have never heard or seen so much hatred and distain as we have now between the two parties. I really don't think that there is much of anything they wouldn't do to give the other side a black eye. This whole country is so divided right now that I wonder about the future. Heaven forbid that they should work together for the good of the people. No matter what happens, half the country will cry and the other half will cheer. Makes me glad that I am old.?
I think there is more bitterness and hatred now because the democratic party has found itself in a position of no power and teetering on irrelevancy, something they are not used to. They have nothing better to do with their time than to take potshots at the president or other republican leadership because that is all they have left. Unfortunately, the Republican party has co-opted many of the democratic idealsin the process.

It is a shame that we don't have a serious third party with Christian values. But the only way I see a major third party getting started is if a national figure defects from a major party. For example, if McCain became (officially) an independent, he would already have national name recognition, list of donors, and, to some extent, a national following. I am not sure that there is a Democrat that has the same qualities that make McCain appealing as an independent candidate. Not that I think it will happen, but just a thought.
