Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Dick cheney

Since the other post was locked, i am starting this one, for anyone who has any comments abotu the Dick Cheney incident. As I posted on the other thread I think it is another black eye that we did not need, but I also think it will blow over fairly quickly. It will be interesting to see if George or Dick have any comments on the situation...

From the limited information I have it sounds like a dumb accident. It should not have happened. Not to beat up too much, but shooting someone at 30 yards who is wearing hunter orange, someone who was known to have "dropped back to recover a downed bird," is not readily excusable in my view. More care and caution should have been exercised. This was "reckless" shooting. I'm glad the victim is not seriously injured.

Of course, none of us is perfect, we all make mistakes. I like to think I wouldn't make this mistake, but who is to say what I would do.

I don't think this has any political implications. What difference does it make to the body politic if the VP is a reckless recreational shooter? Isn't going to effect foreign policy or domestic policy. I don't think this will have any serious impact on second amendment or hunting issues. Hunting accidents happen.Hunting accidentsare regretable. Many hunting accidents, including this one, are avoidable by exercising due care. Hunting is still safer than many other sports. Many more people die from swimming accidents per year than die from hunting accidents. Many more people die from boating accidetns per year than die from hunting accidents.

At a personal level, it is probably worth thinking about your hunting buddies. How safe are they in the field? What is the level of their judgment? What about yourself? I evaluate myself and find that I have taken a shot that had some risk in it, so I am not guilt free. It is worth thinking about not from point of view of beating yourself up but from point of view of establishing practices that reduce risks of accidents.

Thankfully we'll never know, but I wonder what would happen to our VP if the the man who was shot would have died.
As it is, I'm sure no charges will be filed and they will let blow over as it is sure to do. For that matter, Michelle Kwan dropping out of the olympics is getting more attention than this story.

So what would have happened if the table was turned and the guy shot the VP. It would have been totally different. What would happen to that guy?

Just a question that i haveheard floating around andam really curious to hear what the outcome might be......

I don't think anything else would have happened if the lawyer had shot the VP with similar physical results. It was obviously an accident. The accident is regretable, but happily the result was minimal. I have not heard anything to make me think the victim won't fully recover with no diminishment of physical capabilities. It is possible the guy will not even be disfigured as a result of this.

Actually Cheney HAS been fined. Today the Texas game dept has issued aticket too Cheney for not having an upland game stamp (which was new this season). He had the correct small game license to hunt in TX but evidently someone overlooked the quail stamp! []

LOL poor ol Dick, when it rains it's pours!!! [&o]

Calm down Rhody. We all agree this is not the way we want to get hunting into the news. We all know it could have been a lot worse than it is. I agree that they should fine him. My response to anybody that as saadi something to me has been Well stuff happens and if people are scared about being hurt during an acciedent don't drive your car or do anything with any risk. But for the rest of us we will live our lives.

My biggest concern is that if Bill Clinton made oral sex okay for teens, is THIS going to make shooting people in the face okay for them as well?????????????????
