Numerous violations and reports of fraud marred
Iraq's Dec. 15 election, an international assessment team said in a report released Thursday, but it did not question the final results.
The International Mission for Iraqi Elections, a 10-nation monitoring body led by Canada, recommended changes for future elections but made no call for repeating any voting from the December vote.
The results from the voting have not been announced, but are expected to show a large victory for Shiite parties. Sunni Arab leaders have denounced the voting, calling into question the results.

Election officials received around 2,000 complaints that alleged ballot box stuffing and theft, tally sheet tampering, intimidation, violence, incorrect voter lists, ballot shortages, multiple voting, improper police and military conduct, campaigning within polling centers and violations of a pre-election ban on campaigning.

International monitors say there were irregularities in last month's general election in Iraq though they do not question the final result.
In their report, they do not make any overall judgement whether the poll was free and fair but there is no call for a repeat of the ballot.
Some 2,000 complaints of fraud, violence and intimidation were noted.
Iraqi officials resolved many problems despite a lack of resources to investigate them, the report adds.
The report, by the International Mission for the Iraqi elections, says only 237 of the 30,000 polling stations failed to open.

The Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq, or IECI, has worked through the 50 or so serious complaints of voter fraud lodged after the Dec. 15 election, Safwat Rashid, an official with the panel, said Sunday.
About 2,000 complaints were filed overall, but the commission said only 50 had the potential to change vote totals.
