Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Hundreds upon hundreds of activities are more dangerous than hunting. Its all a matter of putting things in perspective. People who are afraid of hunting are simply ignorant or misinformed.

I think wrestling is a great sport, but I've seen guys who were cutting weight before, and I doesn't look good. The pressure on kids over their weight isone ofits mostserious flaws.

In terms of comparing to hunting --I'm with you.Antis will jump all over a hunting accident, but overlook all kinds of ..well normal outcomes of any activity which involves risk. I hate to call a tragedy like a teen athlete accidently killing himself "normal," but it happens.

On a related topic:

I heard a guy on the radio two days ago -- a guest on a local call in show -- who supports ending all forms of cantact sports, believing that will make a huge difference in the amount of violence in the U.S. I bet he doesn't like hunting either.

Ifferd:

Does the figure of one death only include people who were shot? Because I'd think the incidence of hunters being killed after falling from their treestand would add several more deaths.

Seems like every year I read about someone without a harness getting killed. One guy here in Forsyth County fell out, became tangled in a harness upside down and was found dead hanging by the feet.

all my kids wrestle, and it's a great sport to teach mental and physical discipline. but the stress on cutting weight is tough, and potentially unhealthy. it's up to youth coaches and parents to make sure the kids aren't doing anything that's gonna put the kids in jeapordy. we got weigh-ins today at 130 for thesunday's year-end tournament. my oldest was half a pound over last night. a little oatmeal and espresso for breakfast, however, should clean all of that right out of him

Penn, great wrestling state.Good luck to your boy.Took my youngest down there years ago.Peewee I think,it was in Scranton. It doesn't hurt to keep a eye on the kids. Hard for a parent if they havn't wrestled them selves.Probably should talk to someone who has.I had one boy right in the middle and their is a lot of pressure later on in high school. One ended up wrestling for that goof ball at Villinova. It is a great sport though, really under valued. Some of the little guys can get a little parinoid with someone trying to take off their head every week. KEEP an eye on them.
