Why do people do this sort of thing? Could it be over-dosing people with anti depressants? Financial strain? People losing their minds? I'm not sure, but whew, why take others out before taking yourself out?

Probably people living nihilistic meaningless lives who's only purpose is to consume. Pull the rug out from the only meaning in life they have (consumerism) by firing them, they need to send out an 'oh poor me' message to the world by taking out as many people with them as they can. Pathetic people living in a God-less world.
