Default Can a Democrat Support Guns Rights?

So there's the question. Can someone with a basic Democratic ideology support the rights of gun owners? I see adds of our Democratic Governor and Senator hunting and I'm sure a few of us remeber Kerry going out and slaying a couple of geese for the cameras.

Gadfly kerry was just making PR photos- his actions on gun laws speak for themself.( as do most other democrates voting records)

But of course a demo can support pro gun things.

But the democat party is knowen for sponsership&passing of the many antiigun laws.

So a demopersonwould have to go aginst/ buck one of there partys mainpoints& platforms& that is Gun control- and i think most loco/local polticans will go right along with what there national partyleaders do ( kerry, kenndy clintoon, fienstien, shumer etc etc)&back them &will be doing the same thingin the end- and that means they are& will beknowen for there Antifirearm stances& laws also reguardless of what they do localy.

Rep. Sen. Al simpson( they dont want our hunting rifles) was in reality all for many gunlaws& best buds with chucky shumer- so i think the public willget the shaft reguardless to in the end-

Exactly right, Kevin..... Where is Zell Miller when you need him? He is the ONLY democrat out there who supports the 2nd Amendment, hunting rights, etc...etc... We need more like him!

"Can a Democrat support gun rights?"

Abso-friggin-lutely !!!!!!!!!!

I am amazed at the lack of support Democrats provide for gun rights. Maybe it is slightly understandable why East/West Coast liberal democrats are anti-gun, but middle-of-the-country Democrats like senator Tom Daschle of Nebraska (or was it South Dakota?), why these guys?

The right to keep and bear arms is a CIVIL RIGHT. Those who value civil rights should value the right to keep and bear arms. The right to keep and bear arms is a provision for the little guy, the serfs, the peasants, the lower classes. I can bet that the folks in the upper class rich neighborhoods don't have to wait long to have the police respond to their calls for aid when their home is under attack from burglars. What about on the south side of Chicago? Inner city Detroit? Diane Feinstein is ready to outlaw guns in a heartbeat. She has no need for guns. Hell, she can afford to hire a body guard who carries the gun and knows how to use it, certainly without any constraints such as the average citizen has on carrying firearms. Washington DC is supposed to be largely gun free due to anti-gun legislation. I wonder, does the Senator Feinstein walk about Washington DC with an unarmed body guard or an armed body guard?

Absolutely gun rights can be embraced by Democrats. And they should be embraced as a civil right, just like the amendment preceeding the second amendment -- the right to free speech -- and the following amendment providing the so called "right to privacy" ('so called' because the black letters do not include the word privacy, to my recollection).

It seems that democrats from rural areas tend to support gun rights if only for the reason that their constituents wouldn't tolerate anything less. Urban Democrats do not. When most democrats get elected to a national office they tend to shed any pretenses about be pro-gun.

I have a friend who was our state Rep. for years . He was on the Demo bill. He was recently voted out of office. He supports gun rights, but explains to me the montra of the party is gun controle. So yea, some will support it, but as for the party as a whole, no.

No way,, there are too many Libbie's that belong to ACLU, PETA, and other tree hugger organizationthat carry too much political clout. If they don't get their agenda fulfilled they certainly are not going to endorse the candidate.. It's not if a Democrates will support gun laws, the wacko left isn't going to allow them to. And it's all about votes...both sides sell in to votes...
