Default America going down, one Ford at a time

So we all must know by now that Ford willput tens of thousands of folks on the street. Reports tell me that the Wixom, MI Ford plant will be closed, one of many, (I pass it every day). That's huge.

Why?

Let's hear it. And paaaalease.. for the love of God, before you regurgitate that trite wannabe-a-thinker line of "American cars are crap", think before you respond. This issue is well beyond American made/union/imports are better way of thinking. Seriously, let's hear some well thought out answers, and possibly, some solutions.

The problem: Foreign cars (of course).

The solution: Increased taxes on imported vehicles and tax incentives for domestic companies. Keep the liberal leaders in the nation from opening their legs for the foreign companies.

It is also important to remember that many "foreign" cars are now made in America. You have to check before purhcasing a vehicle.

We must, at all costs, keep the new Chinese cars out of the American market.

I can't afford to keep them in business.

For any business..

First, you need to sell a product that people want to buy.

Second, you need to be able to sell them at a price where you can still make a profit.

It seems not enough people want to buy Fords.... and they aren't making enough on the ones they are selling to stay afloat.

Those are the basics..

Throw in bad management, questionable quality and labor unions... and well.. it's a tough environment.

My very good friend is in the UAW. He has a t-shirt that says "UAW, only the Strong Survive"

That's kind of funny in an ironic sort of way.

O.K. I had to laugh at that one a little bit.

The problem: Condi's hair, circa 1955.
Thesolution: We need not worry about the threat of foreign cars onAmerica's market. First and foremost,we need to make improvements on the marketability of American on the world market. If we had a stronger hold on car buyersoutside of our own borders, we could turn the entire business around. America, while a veryvalid and vitaltargetfor new car models and features, is not as important. We need to create a wider variety of cars that don't all focus on the market we see rightin front ofus.

As with Israel, good luck with that, Condie.

Good try there Hillary, (whomever you are). North America is the worst market for Ford. Try again.

Actually their Crown Victorias and Expeditions are great vehicles that hold up well. I've heard good things about their 6-liter diesels also but drive a GMC with a Duramax and Allison.

I will list a fewthngs thatI think put Ford & GM in trouble.

1) Poor management: We have all seen this happen in the past. Company xyz makes huge profits for several years. They promote people into new management positions. The companygets real fat & slow & forget how to run a day to day operation. This is sad but true.

2) UAW: Damands higher wages for there workers every year. This is a good thing.
The bad that comes from the unions? It is so darn hard to fire a worthless person? The company has to weight there options before theyfire someone. Do theyhave a 100% slam dunk case? OR will they have to hire that person back a year later? Then pay him100% of his back pay.

3) Poor Quality: Lets face it, Toyotaor Hondabuild a better automobile than Fordor GM. If you don't believe me? Look at the resale values ofToyota, Honda,Ford & GM.

4) Poor feul mileage: This one just started to hit Ford & GM hard last summer. I am not saying thatall imports get good mileage, because they do not. The larger Toyotas; Tundra &Tacoma 4x4 6-cylinders & V-8's, get poor gas mileage. The Ford F-150 & Chevy/GMC 1/2-ton pickup trucks get the same feul ecomony or better that the two big Toyotas. They somehow dothis with a larger truck inside & out.

5) Large profit from large vehicles: Ford & GM Make huge profits off of there large trucks & SUV's. People are not sure what is going to happen with the price ofgas? My guess is it will never go below $2-per gallon again? This has kept people guessingwhat should I do? This is the sole reason I have not traded in my 2002 Ford F-350 V-10 for a 2006 Ford F-350 V-10. I would ratherdrive a gashog that is paid for. Rather than makes payments on a new gas hog that is not.
