Default All you can eat?

I ate at a new restaurant today. Its called The Golden Corral if I recall correctly. Its a buffet style eatery.

Interesting to see the people in buffet.

I think the place is going to go broke.[8D]

VC I don't know about the Land of OZ, but they have been around down south for a long time.

One thing you will notice about them is that it is where the "locals" eat, so you know the food is good and you will get your monies worth.

Thanks

As buffets go, Golden Corral is not half bad.

It's funny to me though . . . down here in Tennessee, you see cars driving around with bumper stickers that say, "I (heart) Golden Corral." You follow that car to the nearest Golden Corral and I guarantee you that whoever gets out will weigh at least 300 pounds.

Ordinarily when I see some extremely fat person walking around with two plates piled high with greasy foods I say to myself, "Now if you look like that, why in the world would you go around in public eating like that?" But they don't have to be self-conscious about it in that joint, 'cause EVERYFREAKINBODY is looking like that and eating like that. If Jenny Craig walked through the door, they'd probably put a bullet through her head. Or eat her. []

Seriously, though, I was in the Golden Corral last summer and there was this black woman in there who must've weighed 350 pounds, and she had about six kids with her. My wife was blessing her heart for taking so many kids into public and managing them by herself, but I was curiously watching their table and soon figured out why she had brought all the kids with her. She didn't even go to the buffet. She'd send all the kids up, then eat off all their plates.

Thanks, Ben. You made me laugh so hard I woke up my wife![8D]

Mr. Pirk, I'd heard of them before but never ate at one. This one just opened.

The food was good except for the desserts. The desserts that I tasted were rather flat tasting.

The place was jammed. Its amazing how much people eat out these days. I have to more than I care to because of my work, but man, there was actually a bit of line to get a table.

I do have to say though, the place was really popular with people that apparently really enjoy eating.

Lots of sweat pants and mullets.[8D]

LOL! We have a Chinese place that has AYCE snow crab legs, shrimp, sweet & sour chicken, mussels, clams, etc. for about $15. It is a nice place to go when you're hungry, if you don't mind avoiding the jabba da huts walking around in there.

I've been to a few and they're not bad for a buffet. You just don't see that many buffets anymore. I agree on the volume concept. If you actually think about the customer count, a good buffet is serving something like 4 times or more people as a regular restaurant, much like an assemblyline. At that high of a customer count, they can afford to operate on a much lower profit margin because they make it up in volume. And they obviously have a loyal group of fans judging by the bumperstickers.

Cal, I meant the volume of food. But they do have a large volume of custormers, also. My thoughts are they should weigh them going in, then weigh them coming out, and charge based on the difference.[8D]

There is also a buffet in town called The Native Texan. They have some pretty good stuff there, plus it's all you can eat. The first time I went there, I got to looking around, and I think I was the skinniest person eating there. Never had that happen before. I was also the only person wearing jeans or a belt. Another interesting thing I noticed is the chairs didn't have armrests, and they looked like they were beefed up a little to provide extra support.[8D]

A good business always caters to it's loyal customer base.[8D]
