Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

While the parties who recently tried to sieze Justice David Souter's farm via eminent domain haven't been in the spotlight lately , they apparently haven't given up . Personally , while their motivation is mostly revenge for the Supreme Court's recent shameful ruling on that subject , I hope they succeed .

Your thoughts?

I hope they do also. It's absolutely disgusting that the SC made such an assinine ruling.

The Texas legislature reacted by placing their own restrictions on eminent domain shortly after the ruling. This is the only thing that keeps me from saying they "can't do anything right".

There are processes in place for removing housing that I do agree with, under urban blight/urban renewal statutes. Lubbock used this power to remove an entire neighborhood east of campus that had become ridden with drugs and prostitutes. There's no room for drugs in this town.

NT , in most states that's exactly what ED was originally concieved for , not just to sieze land and sell it to the rich boys for bargain basement prices so that they can get richer . That's my biggest beef with that spurious "economic development" smokescreen , Average Joe doesn't benefit from it at all , only the rich do .

Here in Louisville they keep trying to hoodwink the taxpayers into ponying up for a sports arena that we've made more than clear that we don't even want . The first time they nearly caused a revolt when it was revealed that they were going through with the process but expected us to foot $170M of the proposed $220M cost instead of at least doing a bond issue or making the damned rich boys pay for it themselves. The rich boys would be the ones getting the economic benefit while AJ has to pay $50 just to walk in the door and drink $8 lukewarm beer to wash down a cold greasy $3 hotdog . The scheme failed because of that , and partly because the only team that would consider moving here was the lame ass Mn. Timberwolves . Then after they missed out on the Hornets and another team who eventually went to Memphis they gave up for awhile . Now they're talking about it again , and the taxpayers are getting pissed all over again . This area is nuts for college ball , but they'll never support a pro team , it just costs too much for us . The only way they could possibly screw up worse would be to try using ED to get the property forcheap , and that won't fly because guess who owns it ? That's right , the rich boys do .
