I Hate America"How/When did it become the "IN" Thing?
It seems to me that there is a new hot club in town. It had a rocky start, but today it is a roaring success.
It is the "I Hate America" club.
The "I Hate America" club has its own groupies, the "I don"t hate the United States of America, it was once agood" group.
Those groupies have their own sub-set of groupies, the "Any good Isay about America must be "balanced" by showing some bad or I am not being objective" group.
NPR fits into this last group so well they could be the poster-child for the "I Hate America" club.
I listen to NPR (National Public Radio) on the drive home from work most days.
Some of the groups/things NPR caters to are just disgusting.
An example, today I took a days vacation to go with a friend of mine to go on a training hunt for his squirrel dogs.
The NPR broadcast on the radio as I headed home today at about 1:30pm, a real "folksy down home" review and interview (promotion) of a recent movie "Life is hard for a Pimp" (not the real name of the movie, if you want to see such diatribe, do your own Google to find the movie, I won"t endorse it in any way shape or form if I have a choice).
The refreshing thing is that NPR is the only "sort-of-mainstream" source I have seen promoting the movie, I am certain that there are even more minor media groups promoting the movie, but they aren"t "main-stream" yet (Sundance).
One thing NPR does that is "Mainstream" is to "balance out" any positive news on the Iraqi War (and America in general) by ending the story with a negative comment/fact, it is a must.
An example, NPR reports that an Iraqi area now has electrical service due to America"s efforts MUST be the followed up with the comment, "However not ALL areas of Iraq have reliable electrical service yet" or "A new school was opened today in Iraq that offers equal education of boys and girls, However there are still areas in Iraq that have schools that don"t have reliable electrical service".
All of that in its self might seem innocent enough, however (my however) they NEVER "balance" a negative story with a positive aspect; Dan Rather (CBS) must be their poster-boy.
NPR"s lead/favorite sort of story during drive-time radio in the morning, "An Intimate Look at the first U.S. soldier to die in Iraq". A real-heart string tugger of a story, a life cut short, dreams un-fulfilled, that sort of thing.
NEVER a "balancing aspect" added to show some of the positive results of our soldiers giving their lives to offer some betterment to Iraq.
Every positive Iraq War story MUST be balanced with a negative aspect, but just about any negative Iraq War story is ALWAYS allowed to stand without any "balancing" positive aspect ( The "I hate America" banner ).
Anyone remember Dan Rather"s evening "News" broadcasts?
Nightly, America received its daily dose of the "inside look at the War in Iraq". That nightly dose from Mr. Rather (especially the last 3 months of his anchorman"s position), almost without exception, focused on the death of an American soldier, yet the nightly dose must never contained anything that might even hint that what the soldier died for was noble.
The point of this thread is this; When did the "I hate America" first become popular?
A hint for those "assuming the fly on the wall position", Jane Fonda and Mr. Kerry have it in common.
(vc1111, thanks for the inspiration/insight to start this thread) (Your simple statement said a mouthful.)
More importantly; What has been the result of the "I Hate America" becoming the "IN" thing?
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

I don't believe that the movement you speak of is necessarily one of hatred or repugnance. It is simply an overwhelming wave of protest against the actions of an administration and a president that have an unprecedented hatred of Kanye West and New Orleans' jazz musicians. Bush came right out and indirectly announced the way in which he planned for Katrina to wipe out southern jazz as we know it when he released the playlists on his ipod. No jazz whatsoever. No Kanye West whatsoever. It was not without the standards, of course: Creedence Clearwater Revival, George Jones, Alan Jackson, The Knack...etc. (those not affected by the hurricane...coincidence?)

I think your topic is another result of PC being carried too far. It's hypocritical that the same people who insist on giving negative opinions about America and illustrating what America does wrong in their opinion somehow never seem to turn such a critical eye towards themselves or their message.

Personally I'm not a very big fan of CCR, I'd take my Rolling Stones, Ravi Shankar, Green Day, and Bruce Springsteen over them any day, but I'm very much against the president's campaign to destroy the music of black Louisiana (and Kanye). Of course, the challenge now is to practice politics as the art of making what appears to be impossible, possible. I'm sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic! You're a hero to me and to all those black Louisianan jazz musicians...and Kanye.

I dont like jazz to much- but love the blues. Dont ya like Bob marly? Ravi& the rolling stones are good.
So ya know what its like to live on a plantation? You know what i mean?
Nahh yer not unpatriotic because you question the goverment tho(thats just your biased poltices playing im sure )- more like a carpet begger& someone who dosnt have a real job& never did -but ahanger on of billys shirt tails till you got where you are now.

Is that you , Stealthycat ? Tard ?
I attribute the internal anti-Americanism to the rise of the ultraliberal left , thirty years ago they would've had their asses handed to them for the attitude they currently display . You're free to have that opinion if it makes you happy , but you're also free to leave if you don't like it here , so please do . Nobody cries louder than a sore loser .
