Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What Stinkin' War on Terror?

Would someone explain to me just how this war on terror business is being fought? The way I see it, we are fighting them in Iraq so we don't have to fight them here, but, then we let them into our country so we can fight them here. Yep, makes sense to me. Kinda.

We aren't just fighting them in Iraq , and we aren't inviting them to come here , they can find us without our help. Terrorism is a worldwide problem that isn't just limited to us , the european countries have been begging us to help them fight terrorists for decades , but we ignored them because the terrorists weren't attacking us directly . Sort of a pre-Pearl Harbor mentality updated , they aren't hurting us so let's stay out of it . Now we're the prime target . It just surprises me that the terror groups out there hadn't started on us sooner and done more damage than they have , until you go overseas you have no idea how much some countries hate us.

The only thing more pronounced than this administration's hypocrisy surrounding what you've highlighted is the Republican's ability to suffer it quietly.

Kevin,
Congressman Tancredo issued a press release last month that saidover 50Al Qaeda types have been stopped trying to get in this country in the past year. It sure didn't get much play in the press.
It's like VC said, the hypocrisy is astounding. The President constantly harps on the dangers America faces and then does nothing to secure the borders. We can pass all the Patriot Acts we want but if we let the bad guys come in at will, they won't do much good.

Sounds like we're trying to stop some of them at least. My point was that it isn't hard to sneak in here , the US border is immense , it's a wonder that they catch anyone at all . Personally , I'd give thought to ammending the Posse Commitatus to allow our troops to secure the border by force of arms , and I'm not just referring to terrorists either . It also wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit if we stopped all of this "nation building" and "world's policeman" crap and just minded our own business from now on , neither seem to be working in our favor .

I don't think we as a country are specifically "letting" terrorists specifically enter the country as in greeting them at the border with open arms or some kind of welcoming committee. As Tancredo pointed out, we have stopped "over 50 al queda types" so far. The problem is that America has never truly addressed our border security and illegal immigrantion in a comprehensive way that really solves the problem.

We may not have the welcome wagon out for those coming into the country illegally, but we certainly can do more to stop them from doing so.The issue is not these people are coming here to"do the jobs Americans wont do" or to improve the standard of living for themselves and their families. THEY ARE COMING HERE TO KILL AMERICANS DAMMIT!The Tancredo PR begs a further question: If you caught 50, how many got through that you didn't catch? That is one I'd like the press to ask Mr Bushat the next press conference.

I don't disageree that we could do more to secure our borders because we obviously could and, more importantly, we should. I simply wanted to clarify a possible misperception posted that we are somehow "letting" terrorists enter this country.

I wish Bush would be more proactive about telling us how this war on terror is opperating. If we have caught 50 terrorists at the border, he and homeland security should be commended. It's hard for a public to rate the war on terror when success means stopping events from happening. It's much easier to give praise for military response than it is to appreciate it when we simply get to keep the status quo.

Instead of being so critical , lets hear your plans and just what you would do . I would also like to know just how much inside info that you have on the actual goings on behind the scenes. This fits exactly as I and others have said--bust Ws chops over the 'spying' and then criticize , saying he's not doing enough. Just a little hypocritcal. I'm not aiming this specifically at any individual, but to all the detractors who are so quick to speak of things they have so little true insight on.
