Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Vegetarianism is a choice , not a right .

Tofurky anyone ?

I'm all for having healthier menu choices in our schools , but why should a school district have to spend gobs of money just to appease a very small group of students who choose not consume animal products ?

Your thoughts ?

People are getting soft these days and giving in to the bratty kids. These kids ask for rediculous and self centered things and the adults cave in to them. When I was in high school, I wanted beer for lunch, you think they would give use beer for lunch? Not a chance! I had to drive home or to a friend's house across town, pound down my 3 Busch cans of liquid lunch then speed back to school. [grumpyoldmanvoice]That's the way it was and that's the way we liked it. Hey, I feel they can eat whatever they want to eat..as long as they are not forcing it upon others and as long as the taxpayers don't have to shell out more money for the menu !!!
If they want to grow rabbit ears and tails. they can eat all the lettuce and carrots they want !!

amen to that etothepii,
The only reason anyone would think it is good is because they haven't tried hamburger--yummy or because they have to try to convince themselves that it is edible. It said in the cnn article that the kids said they couldn't survive on greasy cheese pizza and salad. PACK A FREAKIN LUNCH if you don't like what the school is servin'. I never relished chile con carne but I didn't ask to see a menu. Back in the day, I would have traded some whacked out vegan my lima beans for their fish sticks. The taxpayershould notspend one extra penny coddling these freaks-in-training. Another example of theloud minority out manuevering the silent majority. Sheesh

Agian, read my mind fodder post and substitute omnivore and veggitarian for Darwinism and Christianity.

One of my daughters is a very picky eater. When she does not like what is on the menu, she takes her lunch. Im not sueing because my daughter does not like whats on the menu. AS for the free lunch system, that throws all kinds of kinks in the plan. If fed funds are used to give free lunches, they are required to meet all needs. My only questions is, why not have fish on Fri.. There are still old school Catholics out there. Where are the law suits. Same game isnt it?

"My favorite thing was the veggie burger. It was so good," said Archibong, who graduated in 2005 and now is pursuing more vegetarian options

I've never understood vegans or vegetarians. If they don't want to eat meat, why do they want to vege stuff to LOOK like meat? There are meatless hamburger patties, meatless sausage, meatless "ground beef", and a bunch of other meatless "meat" products.
Eat what you want, just stay out of my face with it!

I eat meat.

For years whle racing in the marathon. I did not. Meat, aside from venison contains certain amounts of fat and I wanted to avoid it. Meat is also usually slow to digest and caused a rather slugghish heavy feeling for as much as two days of training after consumption.

Bottom line? It is something we should probably eat less of than most of us do. It has a lasting affect on our overall feeling of mobility at times. If you listen to your body, you'll probably eat less, if such things matter to you. For some people it simply does not. To others, their diet is very very important to them or may be a way of reducing or eliminating other health issues.

Meat is often laced with nitrites to retain its read coloration from what I've read. There have been serious questions raised over the years about the use and effects of nitrites and some of those questions are linked to cancer.

It also could increase your tryglyceride levels which as I understand it is a bad thing, although I only know what I've read and I am no expert.

Salt intake is another meat issue and problem for some people.

I have no problem with providing an appropriate diet for those with health problems or those that choose to not eat meat. Meat consumption has been linked to certain health problems under certain circumstances as I understand it.

Since modern science has demonstrated that plants can experience something along the lines of pain or discomfort, I suggest that the vegs simply give up eating altogether...
