I guess we have came a long way since Pong and Rock and Roll, all the way to gangster rap and wholesale blood letting.
Not to sure how I feel about the about the promotion of violence in TV, song and video and video-game.
I watched a contractor play "Grand Theft Auto" on his lunch break. I nievely asked him what the stratagy of the game was, he said to kill and gain points toward the purchase of bigger and better killing weapons.
I guess I am just to old fashioned, Chess (not the way kids play it nowdays though), played well, is a game to learn a lession from.
Thanks
Mr-Pirk

I'm certainly no teenager , but I do enjoy a video game occasionally . Usually it's a flight sim or hunting game , but my all time favorite is the "Tenchu - Stealth Assassins" series . In them you get to be either a male or female 15th century ninja whose mission is to obtain various items while simutaneously attempting to slaughter as many people as possible in assorted gory ways . My favorite power move has the girl leaping onto an opponent's shoulders and thenpopping his head off with her thighswith one mighty twist. Sick ? Maybe , but what a great little stress buster!

And its been an interesting ride to hasn't it? I wanted the game Pong the first time I saw it on Starsky and Hutch! I do enjoy gaming although I don't get to do it as much as I'd like.
This one, Battlefield 1942 isn't really bloody per se, in that you don't actually see blood but you do see the enemies go down. One thing that I find intriguing is that you can fly various aircraft, helo's, Phantom F4's, F-111's (on the Desert Combat upgrade which is a free download off the net)...You can actually feel the difference between how the F4 flys versus the F-111, for example. Different glide ratios, different stall speeds, different "feel" altogether, which I appreciate having had some limited flying experience in days gone by.
Kevin1 I agree about the stress relief. It is a form of escape, yet an element of strategy is usually involved in the better games.

RE: Computer killing
I remember an archade game in the early 80s called 1942. I assume this is the same game. Im a simple guy, my favorite war game was Risk. That would have been many, many moons ago.

Never played BF1942, but I still play Medal of Honor a lot online, and sometimes Call of Duty single player.

Kevin, if you like Flight Sim, you'd probably like "Desert Combat" also. You can fly about 4 different types of jets and 3 or 4 different types of helicopters too.
Bri, I would have never pegged you for a gamer. Don't know why, but it sort of surprises me somehow.
Burnie, I cannot look at that guy dancing in your sig without laughing. That's great. My bowhunting partner and I have been running practical jokes and gags on each other for a number of years. Last year I stole his pickup truck. (Nailed him good; he really thought it was stolen and started walking toward the nearest house which is about a mile and a half from where we hunt... with his bow and climber after he came out of the woods.) Anyway, my latest is that I've got him convinced that I'm taking disco lessons and competing in contests in Cleveland.
