IF President Bush is dumb, and IMHO he isn't, what does that say about his opponents in 2000 and 2004? VP Igore couldn't even win his home state of TN. If he had simply won his home state, FL would have been of no consequence. The Dumbocrats continue to complain about President Bush stealing the 2000 election after 3 recounts in 3 counties and after a couple of major newspapers recounted the entire state and all recounts came up with the same result, President Bush WON FL! Dumbocrats, get over it already!!
If you want to talk about dumb, let's talk about "I never had sex with that woman, Monica Lowenski" and "...Monica's blue dress with Clinton's semen stains..." on it!! That is dumber than dirt!! He was dumb to get involved with her in the Oval Orifice to begin with!!
I am a working man myself. I have been laid off/downsized etc in my life and was actually terminated due to a corporate restructuring just 3 months ago. The bottom line is, the government doesn't create/manufacture/build anything. They hire companies owned by private citizens to do the things that need to be done. This is a good thing. The economy is great! In fact, it is growing at a faster rate than it has in 30 years. Tax revenues are up even with GW tax cuts. People are responsible for saving their money, not the govt! We don't want the government to control energy prices. Carter did it back in the 70s and just worsened the problem. I don't agree with everything GW does (ie. Medicare plan) and I certainly don't forsake him for growing up rich, thanks to his ancestors. I hope to be able to leave my children with a nest egg that they can grow and pass on to their children. It is our responsibility to make money, save money, live happily. When our great great great great grandparents came to this country, they weren't promised the American Dream, just the freedom to pursue whatever that dream might be. Americans need to stop relying on our government and take responsibilityand control of their own lives and acknowledge the most important thing "Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative......We live in the greatest country on earth becauseour government doesn't have total control of our lives....at least not all of us!!
I have a lot of bones to pick with the president, if he and I ever come face-to-face. I don't like the fact that he's building a national debt that is going to be very difficult to overcome. I don't like the fact that he is terribly neglectant of the environment. I especially don't like the fact that he took matters into his own hands, in apparent violation of the Constitution, regarding the wiretaps. There are a lot of areas where I despise Bush's policies and decisions.
However, those who insist on attacking Bush not by attacking his politics, but by attacking him personally, painting him as a halfwit, etc. . . I can't help but think of how silly that is. George W. Bush is not a stupid man. He is not ruthless or mean-spirited. Yet, from the very beginning of his presidency, the Democrats have attempted to tear him down by attacking his wit, his personality, and his ethics. He could've stooped to their level and attacked back, but he did not. When I've been screaming at the TV for him to defend himself against ilk the like of Kennedy and Kerry, he's kept his mouth shut and done the job we elected him to do. He has taken the high road, which says all the more about the man's character. In fact, of all the accusations that I've seen made towards Bush, Alaska Magnum's comment about him being "ruthless" is probably the most ridiculous accusation I've seen. Ruthless? We've all seen ruthlessness in politics. Successfully point out Bush's character flaws that make him "ruthless" and I'll ship you a case of your favorite beverage.
Sure, Bush struggles with the English language. But when I start trying to talk in front of a crowd, a lot of times I find myself stuttering over this word or that word, stumbling through pronounciations and at times forget where I was going with a particular thought. I don't consider myself an idiot because I'm not a smooth-as-silk public speaker, and I wonder how many on here who are so quick to call Bush "stupid" are eloquant and brilliant public speakers themselves? Yes, I cringe when I watch Bush give unprepared statements to the press. But does a man have to be a smooth talker in order to be president?

Don't believe the hollywood crowd, the left wing "mainstream media" and the moron so-called comedians on Comedy Central. GWB is not stupid or nieve. The smartest individuals in our history have been plain spoken. Just because your a fast talking, slick person doesn't make you smart...look at the fool that was in the White House before W. Besides, I have been laughing histerically that the so-called dumb Bush has run circles around the "uber-intelligent" left wingers for his entire Presidency.
Perhaps I'll be alone here , but I'm not entirely convinced that Perot was all that bad a choice for POTUS .
Granted , he has his shortcomings , as does any candidate, but the one thing that stood out about him was that he would have run this country as a business rather than a collective as most Presidents have. I don't believe that he's a stupid man , stupid men don't get to be billionaires simply by surrounding themselves with smart people for the simple reason that smart people in the company of a dumb billionaire will ineveitably succumb to greed and bleed him dry . Perot was still a billionaire last I looked .
If somebody can convince me that running an economy the size of ours as a business , even a non-profit one , is a bad idea then I'm listening . Almost any business can set aside at least some of it's profits for charitable purposes(social programs) , but they temper their generosity with fiscal responsibility(feed the company first, then the employees) . After all , a business must survive to profit , and only by profit can the bounty be shared with the rank and file. Businesses recognize the value of PR(doing good within the local community) , but they also place value on expanding their influence in other markets when a good return can reasonably be expected(foreign aid) . Sometimes though you have to cut your losses(the UN) and just lick your wounds and go on. When faced withcompetition any well run business will reduce costs(welfare) in order to stay competitive , though a certain amount of waste(Democrats) is to be expected .
The bottom line is in fact the bottom line , whether in business or goob , and I honestly believe that Perot should have stayed in the race . Bush is a competant leader , but truth be told ,outside of the family business , which he doesn't appear to have taken much of an active role in , he's not much of a businessman . What we need for awhile is someone who started with nothing and built an empire , because that's what America really is , an empire .

GREAT economy, despite all the money needed to be spent in the war against terror, the hurricanes, and the high gas prices that have nothing to do with Bush. The democrats said his policies would hurt the economy, yet here we are in his 6th year as President, and the economy is doing better and better (it would have gotten worse and worse, according to democrat logic). Surely, if his policies were so destructive, we'd be in a depression. Yet we are thriving despite several huge hits to the economy that have nothing with his policies. I agree he has spent too much, but don't think for a minute the democrats wouldn't have spent MORE. Also, his tax cuts are leading to INCREASED tax revenues. While I have problems with spending AND border control, the alternative, in my opinion, would be MUCH worse.
Bashing the president, calling him names - those who desire can continue to do this if they choose. While there are issues to worry - like the national debt & fuel costs/supply - things are going pretty well here. I work with homeless people & most of them have cell phones. The poor in the US would be considered rich almost anywhere else in the world. The economy is roaring, though it is still changing, as it has been for over 200 years. Taking the Mike Moore route by bashing the president may make some "feel good;" however that tact will ensure continued losing & a continued slide into irrelevance. Just opposing everything is like only playing defense in football - that side is going to lose, the only question is how badly. For the democrat party to have a chance some leadership must emerge that has something to be for, not just be against everything that may be good news...
Whitehorse, you make some good points and I agree with many of them.
I don't go quite so far as to say that legitimate criticism of any president renders a slide into irrelevance. If so many, if not most on this site would be just that because few here fail to take their toll on the Clinton presidency whenever possible.
Bush has failed in many important ways and it hasn't gone unnoticed.
Someone else on here--one of the mods, I think--said something to the effect that if he was so stupid, how the deuce did he get the American public toelect him twice, howdid heget the military to go along with the war (I think this was one--I could be wrong), how did he get the Dumbocrats to go along with thewar, etc. Either he's an evil genius, with an intellect far above that of mostAmericans, or he's a sub-par idiot. He can't be both. While I agree that the people around him make up a fair amount of how he does things, he has to be smart enough to pick the right people . . .
Personally, by his removalof that madman in Baghdad, and the subsequent democratic avalanche that followed (Lebanon kicking out Syria, the Saudis announcing that local elections for town coluncils would take place, the Egyptians announcing that demoocratic elections would take place--then not following through, and theLibyans announcing to the world that they had a nuclear program far more advanced than anyone thought, and, let's not forget the fact that the A.Q. Khan network was uncovered), history will judge him rather kindly. Yes, there's some anal-retentive ring in Teheran who is saying that they have the right to develop nuclear power (for "peaceful" purposes--and if you believe that, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you), and the world is frozen as to how they're going to handle that, but I've got the feeling that the"new" SSGN that was converted by the US Navy (the USS Ohio has been converted to carry 168Tomahawk cruise missiles, and there's threemore of that class to be converted) is on the way to the Persian Gulf--if not there already. US bases ring Iran from three sides, and don't think that the Iranians don't know that. If the B-2s go aloft (from Whiteman AFB in Missouri), and you can bet that the liberal media will let the whole world know if that happens, something's afoot.
