I don't believe W is the brightest tool in the shed. I do believe he has surrounded himself with some of the brightest political minds in the biz, and that partly accounts for his continued electoral success.
for the most part, i have tried to restrain myself from making perjorative remarks about POTUS's intellect, but i feel compelled to respond to thequoted line of thought. it seems to be rearing its head more and more frequently by those who defend Bush.
this is a representative democracy. in our society, allare equally qualified to cast judgment on any and all elected officials. the measure of a citizen's worth to do so is a birthright, not something achieved by either running for office or amassing great wealth.
the merit of an individual opinion does not rest on one's station in life.
Although your point about the right to offer an opinion is well taken boysda, you also appear to prove LBR's point in that GW has obviously chosen to surround himself with some bright people. The odds of a stupid person continually doing this are not very good so GW must therefore not be stupid. Does he do stupid things or make stupid mistakes? Of course. We all do from time to time. His as president are analyzed ad nauseum whereas ours are thankfully soon forgotten and only generally known by a few, or if we're lucky, just ourselves. I would say that GW is obviously reasonably smart and has luckily (or intelligently, maybe both) chosen to surround himself with smarter people.

I have no problems with us going to war it needed done.My problem with wya goes back to his father,he was thrown out for letting our ecomomy play second fiddle to his world wide concerns.Like father like son the man hasn't a clue about American working people.Fuel cost are up 40% the national savings rate is zero ,national deficet skyrocketing & drug plan we cannot afford & is to complicated for the elderly to understand.Intrest rates are going up the market going down,yet the Bush people are talking about a great economy.Maybe they should ask some of these people how their new years going.
Bush is not stupid, he is very very very smart. He is also very talented in the art of reading people and saying what they want to hear. He is not evil, he is simply what he always has been. An overpriveldged underworked human being who throws a fit if they cannot get their own way.
He is spoiled, he is ruthless, he is mean-spirited. and he has not a clue about the regular folks in America...and it shows. The naitvette, the homespun cowboy nonses, is just an act.
Bush is NOT from Texas. He is from Massachustess, just like John Kerry. He is NOT a cowboy. Putting on a hat and wearing pointy boots does not make you a cowboy. Owning, selling, buying, working, or producing cattle for beef makes you a cowboy. It is all show. Ever wonder why George has a Texas TWANG but Neil and Jeb talk without an accent???? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

please note i said he surrounded himself with some of the best political minds. i believe this accounts for his electoral success.
intelligence is not an indicator of success. Carter was one of the most intelligent presidents of the modern era, but largely ineffective. Reagan was not one of the brightest by a long shot, but incredibly effective.

I can give those suspicions a rest. When you live in a certain area for a while, you tend to pick up on the accent. I was born and raised here in MS, and other than time in the military and a short 5 months on a job in OH, I've lived here all my life. After I came home from the 5 months in OH, my friends and family said I had a "Yankee" accent--I never realized it, and it went away after I'd been home for a little while. I have relatives that moved North when they were young adults, and now you would never know they were born and raised in the South by hearing them talk. I went to school with a guy that was also born and raised here, then joined the Army after high school. He was as redneck as they come when he left, but you would have never known it after a few years in the military.
You can rest your mind at least on that part. President Bush's accent isn't an act, it's a natural occurance due to his living in TX.

Just when I thought another nonsubstantiated insult couldn't be contrived--you proved me wrong. This one is pretty far fetched though, and required some real inventedness.For that effort you win the door prize--a week free in sensitivity training!
Calhunter I agree with you, LBR brings out some valid points about GWB, although there are an awful lot of things he has done that I don't like, he is not as dumb as many claim he is!
