RE: Man made or nature
Interesting question, but then I accept the fact that I've had fissures in my beanie for a long, long time.
I've been thinking lately of saving the fur from the deer that I kill every year and making things from it. Now I cannot tell you why. I just think that the animals are beautiful and I would like to preserve and use them for something.
As of now, I have no real idea what I'll make from them. I've thought about making a "possibles" bag for muzzleloader hunting, but I don't hunt with firearms much. Maybe a fur covered footstool or Ottoman?
I've also considered making something from the buckskin itself instead of retaining the fur. In either event, I won't do the processing myself, because I'm not interested in working with the chemistry invovled. I've read a little about it, and it doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather have the finished product and go fromt there.
I also ponder the possibilities of making knives from antler. I've mounted almost all of my racks myself, except for the one full head mount that I had done. Why I need another knife though is a question that I could not answer with a straight face. I have about a dozen fine knives already.
Field and Stream just had an article about buying blanks and making knives from antler.
