Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Do minors have the same Constitutional rights as adults or not ? Can you abridge those rights without reducing the protections that they convey ?

Sometimes I get curious as to what idiocy goes through the mind of a judge making a ruling like this.

Laws like this come into place due to parents not being parents and the government feels they need to be all childrens parents.

For good parents laws like the one struck down make our jobs easier.

Attempting to make these kinds of laws are pointless. The kids parents are just going to buy them for their kids anyway in the usual process of appeasment that goes on in many housholds.

Sadly that is true, but laws like this also allow more parental controls for parents that do care about thier children and what they see or do. It makes parents who do care lifes easier because they know thier kids can not buy this stuff with out the aiding and abetting of an adult.

Wouldn't restricting these games from minors be the same thing as rating movies (PG-13, R...) I believe if a movie is rated R, you have to be 17 or older to go to it in the theater or buy it in a store.

There are a number of other things minors aren't allowed to purchase.

Booze, tobacco, and entering into any legal contract can not be done until 18 come to mind.

Taz, there are certain legal contracts which can be embraced by people as young as 15 in certain states.

Good thread with the promise to be a great thread.

VC you are kidding me...... like what kind and what states?

In Va. unless there is a cosigner you have to be 18 to enter one and in most sales contracts they need a co-signer unless they have established credit.... of course that is the sales companies requirement and not the law.

As I understand it, in Ohio, PA, and West Virginia, a 15 year-old of either sex may contract for life insurance and the contract is a completely binding two-party agreement.

The same could be true in many more states.

The reasoning is that certain types of contract are in the interest of the public.
