I've recently heard something that i still have trouble believing. That is, there are states that do not allow hunting on Sundays. Is that true? If so, what is the legal basis. I would assume that there is a religious foundation to it.

States that I know of that do not allow Sunday hunting:
- MA
- PA
- I think Maine and NC (not sure on these two)
why? who knows, anything from religious origins, to blue laws to belief that the animals need a rest day.
One concern I have with suddenly allowing it, is that this will basically double the amount of time many can hunt, which may lead to increased kill which may lead to season length reductions. I don't agree with Sunday ban, but you need to consider several things when asking to change it.
I can confirm that there is no hunting on Sundays in NC, at least on State Game Lands.
This suits me fine. I like to fish in the Game Lands and on Sundays I don't have to worry about some overly eager hunter spraying me with buckshot. I do, of course, wear blaze orange head to toe when fishing on Game Lands just in case somebody forgets what day it is.
Seems to me that there is a separation of church and state issue here. If folks can't even put up Christmas displays or post the 10 commandments in certain places, I dunno how you can legally justify not permitting hunting on a day because it might conflict with Sunday Christianservices.

Stuff like that just irritates me even though I am a few states away. It would irritate me even more if I was a 9-5 guy who was essentially limited to hunting on Saturdays during the winter months.

Don't get me started on Sunday hunting!!!! I have been trying to gather support for an online petition for VA to look into allowing Sunday hunting, and it always falls on deaf ears.
Check this article out... It will bake your noodle....
I am up here in NY visiting relatives and NY has Sunday hunting. Some of the in-laws can't understand by certain states don't allow it. I feel like boycotting Virginia and coming up here to upstate New York to the relatives' places and hunting up here!
I would think that the ACLU might take on the issue since it seems to clearly be an issue of separation of church and state. But then again, they might not be too anxious to take up for "Bambi killers."
It is strange how stuff like this persists in some states. For example, there has been a big movement in Iowa in recent years to make it legal to hunt doves, but it consistently gets shot down.
The worst example i ever heard was a game warden who would not allow beaver trapping in his district, even though it was legal, since he thought that they were too cute to kill.
