Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

The story on CNN

Be sure to check out the Quickvote on the right side , when I looked at it earlier public opinion on the ammendments was 67% against due to privacy and First Ammendment concerns . How in hell can they even think of approving something that the clear majority of their constituents oppose ?

Maybe this had something to do with it ?
Caught in the cookie jar ?

Bill Frist is an ineffective leader in the Senate. It is as simple as that. Because he represents my state and I've had the opportunity to speak with him on issues, I warned folks prior to his being named majority leader that the GOP would be making a mistake if they chose Frist. I suppose some might look at his stance on this issue and say that he's proving himself a good leader because he's got the gonads to take a stand when a majority of Americans disapprove with the Patriot Act. To me, however, it says that he doesn't have the backbone to face the criticism of the Patriot Act. Bill Frist is an extremely nice guy, and a good man. But as a leader he is too wishy-washy and every conservative should hope that he doesn't win the GOP nomination in '08.

Just found this on Drudge.

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators, demanding increased protection of civil liberties, defied President George W. Bush on Friday and blocked legislation to renew the USA Patriot Act, a centerpiece of his war on terrorism.
On a Senate vote of 52-47, mostly Republican backers of the measure fell eight short of the needed 60 to end debate and move to passage of it.
Proponents of the legislation warned that much of sweeping anti-terror law was to expire at the end of the month, and if it did, the nation could be placed at increased risk.
"We have a clear choice before us today: Do we advance against terrorism to make America safer or do we retreat," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican, said shortly before the vote.
Senate Democratic and Republican foes of the proposed renewal said the law could be swiftly reauthorized if lawmakers agreed to better balance national security with civil liberties.
"None of us wants it to expire, and those who threaten to let it expire rather than fix it are playing a dangerous game," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat.

I liked Frist alot better before he became majority leader.

No doubt.

There is nothing wrong with the Patriot Acts, unless you don't like giving up your freedoms to increase the power of the executive.

It was.

I'm just not sure which one of the smileys is the facetious smiley, or I'd use it more often.
