Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Treating the war dead with respect and dignity is similar to my plan, except that in my plan we leave Iraq and let them come home alive.

I agree but not until the Iraqis can secure it on their own. Otherwise, all of the soldiers who have died will have done it in vain.

I guess this is why they won't let the media film the return of our honored dead to US soil.

"The least said is the least mended" and such,,, right? But the secret is out now that mom and dad found out.

I predict mom and dad will be labeled "liberal, America Hating trash" (or similar drivel)Â*
by theÂ*Bushbots in 3,, 2,,,,,,
Liberal America Hatin . . . nevermind. he he he. Are there any Bush bots left? Seriously. I hear more criticism from Republicans than support.

I don't think the media ought to be allowed film the return of dead soldiers because so many people would make political hay out of the images. Imagine the commericals the Howard Dean would put together.

Keeping the press out doesn't restrict anyones ability to say anything they want.

Even if a body is transported on a military aircraft it is still freight. Hell last time I was on a C-130 I might as well have been freight. Contrary to popular belief, the bodies of our fallen have never been transported covered with the flag. The flag is draped over the casket prior to exiting the aircraft. The caskets are stacked and palletized. How else are should they be moved? Its a matter of logistics.

No one is saying it is illegal to photograph the flag draped coffins - the government is simply denying the media access to them. A subtle but notable difference.

This used to be my argument with some of my liberal type friends who wanted to cut and run from day two of the war - I felt it was our responsibility since it was us that made the mess.

However, I've come to change my mind - I no longer think we have the ability to stabilize that country and no matter how long we are there it will devolve into chaos when we leave. A decade, a year, a month, it will probably be unstable at best, a total civil war at worst.

And if we can't fix it, my opinion is we ought to admit we ****ed up and pull out. THe best way to honor those who have already died is to not let any more of their friends die for a lost cause.

I couldn't disagree more. Despite the casualties (which are very low by comparison) things are improving over there. Iraqi troops are slowly taking over more and more of the security. The last figure I read was that they are controlling 35% of the country's security. I guess I don't understand why all of the amazing things that have been accomplished don't seem to matter and that it is just assumed that it will fall apart.

I'm not saying there aren't problems. There are a lot of them. But if tomorrow's election turns out to be as huge as they think it will be, we'll take a huge step toward leaving - on our terms.
