Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Sportsman's Petition to Protect Public Lands

Hi everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting here, but I work at the National Wildlife Federation and we're trying to gather signatures for an online petition to protect valuable hunting grounds.

The House recently passed a budget bill that has a number of provisions that could put more than 300 million acres of public lands up for sale. They are right now combining this bill with a Senate budget, picking and choosing which provisions from each will be put in the final bill. NWF and a number of our state affiliates want to make sure these things don't end up in the final bill, and if they do, that the bill is not passed.

You can find out more about the two budgets here:
http://action.nwf.org/campaign/budget20051122/explanation

Here is the link to the petition:
http://action.nwf.org/campaign/budgetsportsmenpetition20051130

We'll be copying and pasting all the names we gather and giving this directly to your representatives in Congress.

Please spread this around and thanks very much!

Agree, Ifferd. Selling assets is no cure for a spending problem. I am also against drilling in ANWR. I think money would be better spent curing our dependancy on fossil fuels than temporarily soothing the itch associated with foreign oil. Plus, the way OPEC operates, they would offset production we brought online, allowing us to never realize much relief at the pump.

I also noticed on reading some of your material that farm bill programs were mentioned. I used to work for the NRCS, and was impressed with many of the conservation programs originally provided for in the 2002 Farm Bill. There was a lot of land in my neck of the woods that had been overgrazed and abused before people realized the consequences of their actions, and programs like EQIP, WHIP, and CRP were helping the generations that inherited the problems begin rebuilding and revitalizing. I agree spending should be cut, and the Farm Bill is no exception, but I was hoping to see cuts in other places, mainly commodity subsidies.

I signed your petition. Thanks for the info.
