Default illegal war

I've heard a lot of lefties, anti-Bush conservatives and independents, protesters, etc. use this term.

I'm sure this will start a war of words, and that is not my intent...

What exactly is meant by this. In their view, does this war violate some U.S. law? Some international law? I really want to know the thought behind this phrase.

I believe the term "illegal war" was created by the U.S. lefties. However, it isn't an offical term. I think "illegal war" refers that the US went to war with Iraq over false information and false reasons. I could be wrong though.
