Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

I'm making $8.50 an hour cooking ata restaurant. I think dad makes around 32 dollars an hour. Mom's is lower, I think her's is around 25 or something.

$8.50 ain't great, but it don't suck either. Although $17 would make my life alot easier...

I am not doing too bad then, at $15.40. It's lower than the average, but the cost of living here is also lower than the national average I would guess. Heck, I only pay $375 a month for rent. Total for phone/power/propane fuel, is about $250, so not too bad.

At least I don't think so

In many states it is much lower. Thats the thing about averages, not many are in the middle and most are lower. Very few people in the Dakotas make that kind of money. Living costs may be less here except for utilities. Since temps here range from -40 to 105, our heating and cooling costs are high. The three or four largest cities in SD and ND have wages somewhere near that average but the rest of the state is not even close. I would expect its that way in other states as well.

As James said, its different in certain areas. I have no idea what the national average is and don't really care, because all I am concerned with is what I make which is certainly not enough. If I sound bummed out somewhat, I am. Yesterday I was notified by mail that I was eliminated for a good, high paying job, a job with higher than the national average pay. I went through the process and made it through to the 3rd round(most don't get that far). Round 3 was an interview........guess I bombed out or my age was taken into consideration, or possibly my past job experience(which I should have been an excellent match) was not seriously taken into consideration.
