Two weeks ago, as I was starting my sixth month of duty in Iraq, I
was forced to return to the USA for surgery for an injury I
sustained prior to my deployment. With luck, I'll return to Iraq in
January to finish my tour. I left Baghdad and a war that has every
indication that we are winning, to return to a demoralized country
much like the one I returned to in 1971 after my tour in Vietnam.
Maybe it's because I'll turn 60 years old in just four months, but
I'm tired:
I'm tired of spineless politicians, both Democrat and Republican who
lack the courage, fortitude, and character to see these difficult
tasks through.
I'm tired of the hypocrisy of politicians who want to rewrite
history when the going gets tough.
I'm tired of the disingenuous clamor from those that claim they
"Support the Troops" by wanting them to "Cut and Run" before victory
is achieved.
I'm tired of a mainstream media that can only focus on car bombs and
casualty reports because they are too afraid to leave the safety of
their hotels to report on the courage and success our brave men and
women are having on the battlefield.
I'm tired that so many American's think you can rebuild a
dictatorship into a democracy over night.
I'm tired that so many ignore the bravery of the Iraqi people to go
to the voting booth and freely elect a Constitution and soon a
permanent Parliament.
I'm tired of the so called "Elite Left" that prolongs this war by
giving aid and comfort to our enemy, just as they did during the
Vietnam War.
I'm tired of anti-war protesters showing up at the funerals of our
fallen soldiers. A family who's loved ones gave their life in a just
and noble cause, only to be cruelly tormented on the funeral day by
cowardly protesters is beyond shameful.
I'm tired that my generation, the Baby Boom - Vietnam generation,
who have such a weak backbone that they can't stomach seeing the
difficult tasks through to victory.
I'm tired that some are more concerned about the treatment of
captives then they are the slaughter and beheading of our citizens
and allies.
I'm tired that when we find mass graves it is seldom reported by the
press, but mistreat a prisoner and it is front page news.
Mostly, I'm tired that the people of this great nation didn't learn
from history that there is no substitute for Victory.
Sincerely,
Joe Repya
Lieutenant Colonel
U. S. Army
101st Airborne Division

We are clearly being shown one side of this war,and it is the bad side. The president has done a poor job promoting the good that is being done.
The Kurds are doing well.Schools are being built. The econemy has to pick up so more have jobs.
As far as the press goes its like the "Man bites dog " story. The press seems to go out of its way to make Wya look bad,but he makes it awful easyfor them.

I think you got to the root of our current way of life. We arecontrolled by the polititians and force fed all the news from a media that has it's own bias.

Ben, great letter or text you posted here, thanks.
Islander, this is very true...I think you got to the root of our current way of life. We arecontrolled by the polititians and force fed all the news from a media that has it's own bias.
The thing is we choose where and what we eat. No one can force feed a person unless they are either lazy, stupid or both.
Much like the problem with obesity in this country we have herds of lazy people grazing at the easiest or most accessable news source. God forbid people would take it upon themselves to read, listen to or watch a variety of news presentations, and sort through the trash and facts. Even more astounding they would stay in touch with or contact some active military personnel and get some first hand views of what is really occurring.
We are becoming or have become a nation of fast food and easy newslistening junkies. Show me picture of things being blowed up and losts of dead people. In the end we, as a nation, will get what we deserve.
They'llhave a BigMac with tons liberal bias sauce on a i sees nothing bunand twisted facts, oh and load that order up with some frenchfries and a big shake ofscreaming extreme left wing demmiecrap to wash it down.[:'(]

LOL. Gotta love that typical liberal attitude. You guys are so hellbent on believing that "Bush's war" is failing that you try to dismiss the comments of soldiers who have been over there and seen it first hand but happily embrace the comments of biased reporters with an agenda against the war. I just can't figure you guys out.

i don't think it has failed yet. that test will come when we finally leave the region. i don't know what will happen for sure, but i have my suspicions that the people of that region will not be able to sustain it. as my grandfather says, true democratic reform must come from within. it cannot be imposed upon a country.
in my opinion, the success or failure of the war has no bearing on the issue of whether or not faulty intel was presented to ensure the action took place. it has not been determined whether or not this was the case, so i am not making that call yet. but if it was, success doesn't erase that issue. i do not believe that the end justifies the means.
you don't have to figure us out, but you do have to live with us...because we aren't going anywhere.
This is not the kind of remark an educated man would make. Some times it is better to say nothing than to say something sarcastic. If you don't agree with a post tell us why so we can debate it. Statements like this add no credibilty to your beliefs.
If you ment this a a joke I missed it and am sorry.
As you can see know I posted this while you were responding your above post does a lot better job of defining your beliefs.
