Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Stupid Terminology

I was watching 'Shootout" on the history channel the other night and the narration of the show made me roll my eyes. This particular episode was about that big LA bank shootout in the early 90's.

What got me was when the announcer noted that the perps were armed with AK-47s which he referred to as "one of the deadliest assault rifles." Previously, I was unware that one gun was potentially more lethal than the other. I'm glad I know better now.

Later, the .308 round was referred to as "even deadlier" than the 7.62x39mm. I could have bought more powerful, but deadlier? If either round strikes you in the vitals, the end result is the same.

Pretty minor in my books. We've certainly seen a lot worse.

BTW, I'd guess that most of the troops in Iraq would agree with the piece's terminology. We continue to hear gripes that the .223 round isn't up to the task and doesn't match up to the 7.62X39 round of the AK47.

More disturbing to me is the coverage regarding the Borden shootings in PA. The press can't mention the case without trying to tie the shooter to the 54 guns seized from his father's home.

There is no indication that any of these guns were illegal nor connected to this case, so why were they confiscated?

If owning a large number of guns was motivation to commit crimes, I'd have faced a capital sentence a long time ago.

This may pe off topic, but Chuck Hawks has an interesting article on how the .243 WIN would be a much better military/anti-personnel round.

Agree or not, he makes a decent argument, at least.
