A note to advise pro-gun folks about a grassroots movement to urge the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security to support H.R. 1243 (SAFE ACT of 2005) which is a national reciprocity bill. Not a peep about this on GOA or NRA sites, BTW.
The bill is currently in this Subcommittee and a similar bill died in the Subcommittee in 2003, so we need to let them know we want them to move on this bill.
The movement is asking people to call these Congressmen today and urge moving the bill to a floor vote. While I wish them luck, the probability of getting a Congressman on the phone from a non-constituent is low. I'm sending emails. If any of these committee members are your rep, it's important that they hear from you.
Couldn't get HN to accept my post yesterday but I called Dan Lungren's office and expressed my support. Lungren is supposed to call me back. Is there a Democrat HNI member who lives in or near Maxine Waters' district in CA? She's not likely to accept much from a N CA Republican.

I'm not sure if this version contains a provision for retired LEO's, you might want to put a plug in for that. The previous version did, so I'd think this one does too, but don't know for sure.
I am actually supporting this bill for the citizens, not the LEO's. Unlike some of my fellow LEO's, I believe in everybody's right to the 2nd amendment. As Mark Twain said, an armed society is a polite one. And as Sam Colt said, God made man, Colt made them equal (or something like that).

I highly respect your position here CalHunter. Too many people seem to be incapable of looking at what is right or wrong other than in the context of how it effects them personally. If they are exempted from something they don't like or are included in something they do like then they are happy and will reject/support the idea. You could easily sit back and not care about this if the LEO provision takes care of it for you personally but I see you have more character than that! In a larger context regarding this sort of thing, politicians ofter play heavily on this very human weakness. They will buy votes by offering some tax advantage or whatever to some group of people and rarely will people in that group reject the idea as wrong if they are positively impacted. I think the politiacians often look at proposals as ways of manipulating the public rather than looking at proposals on their merit. Sorry, I'm getting off topic and rambling...
Thanks for the compliment Sylvan. LEO's recently had a bill passed that allows off-duty LEO's to carry concealed in all 50 states. Some people complained that that bill only addressed LEO's and not citizens. At the time, I said one step at a time. Now we are ready for the next step with this bill. All LEO's with any honor should support this bill. It's the right thing to do.
