DULZURA, Calif. -- [/b]An investigation was under way today into the shooting of a suspected illegal immigrant by a U.S. Border Patrol agent.
The 37-year-old immigrant was in Border Patrol custody, said Kurstan Rosberg, a Border Patrol spokesman. Rosberg didn't elaborate.
The illegal immigrant suffered a minor injury Wednesday when an U.S. Border Patrol agent's weapon discharged during a foot chase in a remote area of southeastern San Diego County, sheriff's Sgt. Gary Haigh said.
The Border Patrol and the sheriff's department are jointly investigating the shooting, which happened about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
"As one of the Border Patrol agents was chasing a suspect through rough and steep terrain, the agent drew his firearm," Haigh said.
"During the incident, the firearm accidentally discharged. A fragment from that discharge possibly struck the suspect."
The 37-year-old man, whose name was not released, was treated at a hospital for a minor facial injury, the sergeant said.

What???? We can't shoot an illegal running from the law, but we can shoot Joe crack-head when he steals from the 7-11? Should have been a better shot, got him in the head.
